A Man Called Otto Ratings & Reviews
- arcanus9917 maart 2026How could you not love this movie
- Georgi Malinov1 maart 2026A wonderful, meaningful, and instructive film. The only thing I didn't like was the repeated mention of people with non-traditional sexual orientations in order to accuse everyone else of narrow-mindedness and rude behavior towards such people, simply because they disapprove of their choice of sexual partner or sexual behavior.
- MrTrivet2 februari 2026Warm and mushy - maybe I’d feel differently if I’d seen the original Scandinavian version, but the contrast of bitterness and sweetness in the American version comes off as bland.
- josi.victoria23 januari 2025Classic Tom Hanks, he could never score below a 3.5 with me.
- AMI_bios27 januari 2026Good movie overall. Pretty blunt with the messages though and could have benefited from some subtly.

- oweng1515 juni 2025Such a good film! It follows the book well, and you really feel for the characters. It might be a bit slow for some, but I personally enjoyed it and it's nice to watch on a chill weekend.
- Mister Arn14 mei 2025"A Man Called Otto" eschews action and adventure for a deeply engaging story centered around a solitary man and his community. The exceptional acting and script effortlessly draw you into the tale. Rather than relying on physical activity to captivate, the film masterfully evokes emotion, moving its audience profoundly.
- Manuel Frangis13 april 2025I just watched A Man Called Otto, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie really surprised me in the best way. I knew it was going to be emotional, but I was not expecting it to hit me this hard. It is one of those stories that feels quiet but powerful. It sticks with you and makes you think about the people around you and the little moments that actually matter. Tom Hanks plays Otto, a man who seems like he has completely shut down from the world. He sticks to routines, keeps to himself, and does not have much patience for anyone. At first, he is hard to like. He comes off cold and distant. But as the story goes on, you start to see what is underneath that. You learn more about his past and the people he has lost. It makes you understand him, and your whole perspective shifts. Hanks is incredible in this role. He plays Otto with so much honesty. Even when he is silent, his face tells you everything you need to know. He brings a quiet kind of emotion that really hits. It is one of the best performances I have seen from him in years. You can feel how tired Otto is, but also how much he still cares deep down, even if he is trying not to show it. The supporting cast brings a lot of heart too. Mariana Treviño plays Otto’s new neighbor, and she brings such a spark to the story. Her character is warm, full of energy, and refuses to be pushed away. The way she and Otto bounce off each other adds a lot of humor and heart. Their relationship builds slowly but naturally, and it becomes the core of the whole movie. The pacing is steady and calm, just like the story. It does not rush. It gives time for each moment to land. The cinematography is simple but effective. The neighborhood feels real. The homes, the streets, the quiet — it all feels familiar in a comforting way. There are no flashy effects or loud distractions. It is about people and the small things they do for one another. One thing I really appreciated is how the movie handles serious topics without making it too heavy. There are emotional moments, but there is also warmth, humor, and hope. It shows how even in the hardest times, there can still be connection, kindness, and a reason to keep going. It reminded me that sometimes just being there for someone can mean everything. Watching A Man Called Otto also reminded me how much the little things matter. A smile, a visit, a conversation — those simple moments can change someone’s whole day. The movie does not shout that message at you. It just shows it, and it makes you feel it. I give A Man Called Otto 5 out of 5 stars because it is heartfelt, thoughtful, and full of meaning. It is not loud or dramatic. It is just real, and that makes it powerful. Overall A Man Called Otto is a beautiful film about rediscovering purpose, finding community, and opening yourself up again. I loved every minute of it, and it is one I will be recommending to people who just need something honest and meaningful.
- Majorclay6 augustus 2025What a great movie, Tom Hanks doing what he does best.
- LK5125 juli 2025A truly magnificent movie. Well written, well acted and well produced. Funny, poignant, and thoughtful. A unique film that stands apart from the others.
- Kevin Ward4 juli 2025The film follows Otto (Tom Hanks), a grumpy and solitary man whose life is turned upside down when a young family moves in next door. Despite his initial reluctance, Otto is drawn into their lives and learns the value of love, family, and community. Hanks is really solid as Otto and brings his warmth and humor to the role, while still maintaining plenty of grumpiness. But Mariana Treviño was the standout as Marisol one of the new neighbors. She brought an immense amount of charm to the role and makes her disarming of Otto’s gruff exterior completely believable. The film has a warm hearted message along with some deeper themes of loss and longing, but at the same time it plays out quite predictably making the overall drama feel more formulaic than it is emotionally moving. It’s a cute film nonetheless, and a pretty easy recommendation.
