Even voor het ontstaan van menselijk leven op aarde ontdekt een groep apen een monoliet. Vier miljoen jaar later wordt een gelijkaardig object ontdekt op de maan dat een signaal uitzendt naar Jupiter.

  • "THE MOVIE FANATIC"23 uur geleden
When I was a kid this film used to bore the s**t out of me. However when I revisited it as an adult, and my movie tastes were fully developed and had really evolved; I was looking at films in a more deeper way and through a different lens when my thoughts changed on this film. And "2001 A Space Odyssey" is one of those films, that I've really appreciated and seen it for the masterpiece since my transition into adulthood and I've grown to both love & appreciate this movie so much that it's now well into my top 100 favourite movies of all time. The great and late "Stanley Kubrick" was the master of visual storytelling and everytime I rewatch "2001 A Space Odyssey" I always pick out and discover something new from this truly phenomenal movie just like he did with "The Shining" he puts so much attention to detail into his projects it's to the point where most of Stanley Kubrick's movies are like the universe itself and that is endlessly undiscoverable the man was just an out & out genius filmmaker. And finally there's no other movie out there like "2001 A Space Odyssey" it's one of a kind it's just one of those movies that I can't praise enough it's out of this world.

2001: A Space Odyssey isn’t just a film, it’s what happens when Stanley Kubrick drops acid, contemplates the meaning of existence, and decides to reinvent cinema along the way. It’s slow, meticulous, and more visually stunning than Scarlett Johansson. This isn’t sci-fi for people who need constant explosions, it’s for those who don’t mind marinating in existential dread and classical music. Every shot is a masterclass in visual storytelling, every silence more deafening than HAL watching you slowly suffocate outside the pod bay doors. And HAL himself? The soft-spoken murder toaster that decided killing the crew was the best way to preserve the mission's secret and maintain it's integrity. Calm, polite, and absolutely terrifying. It’s weird, it’s profound, and it’s more of a spiritual journey than a movie. You don’t just watch 2001, you experience it, then spend the next decade trying to explain it. And honestly? Nothing comes close.

Good movie. It has mind blowing special effects considering the year it was released! But the very slow pacing of the movie is really showing its age, with only a bit of action at the end. I recommend it to absolute sci fi lovers.

I have a really interesting, probably unpopular opinion on this one. I appreciate how insanely iconic it is, and the huge effect it had on movies in general, and the really crazy groundbreaking effects and story it chose, but it’s just not very fun to watch, for me. There’s about a 20-30 minute chunk that is REALLY GOOD (the stuff with HAL) and then the rest is just “interesting but meh” to “what the crap am I watching.” Oh, and the intro with the sunrise is PEAK

Biggest home run swing in all of cinema and boy did it hit the sweet spot It’s the anti-“wifff” Totally forgot about the musical prelude over the pitch black screen. Would be extraordinary in theaters. And the intermission! Possibly the best music in film. Did Robert Eggers reuse this or is it just incredibly similar Kubrick saw it all coming

A movie for all.. And for no one!

2001 a Space Odyssey opened the door to serious space movies. It is probably one of the most beautiful movies ever from a photography point of view, you could take almost any frame of the movie and hang it on a wall. Kubrick took the freedom that gave him creating his own world to the extreme. I don't give it the 5 stars because it is slow sometimes and I'm not comfortable with the ending, I know it is not Kubrick's fault as it is based on a book, but the whole "starchild' scene is way too much for me. Having said that, a must see. Very relevant nowadays with the AI revolution.

Its slow pace and lack of dialogue make it not for everyone, But for those like myself, it's a mesmerizing movie that sparks a lot of existential questions and wonder about the universe.

One of the best movies, slow paced, totally cerebral, painfully experimental, with amazing music, incredible cinematography, 100 years a head of its time, you need to watch several times to kind of get it, but worth every minute.

Legend has it if you take a shot every time he asks Hal to open the pod bay doors the ending will actually make sense

It's 2025 and 2001: A Space Odyssey is still the best looking movie I have ever seen. I cannot imagine the experience of seeing this at the cinema for the first time in 1968. They really don't make movies on a scale like this anymore. Every pixel was planned in a time before Pixels existed. It can be a slow paced movie, for me it's just as much about what happens inside your head as what is happening on screen. It's not for everyone - my girlfriend's review of this movie was "it wasn't for me" But I am yet to experience another movie like 2001 again and I'm not sure I ever will. Don't try and understand it - just experience it - try and understand it later
