It was not as bad as I thought it would be. Pleasantly surprised. It was pretty good.

⭐⭐½ – 10,000 BC – Mammoths, Myths, and Missed Potential When 10,000 BC arrived back in 2008, it promised an epic prehistoric adventure — vast landscapes, mammoth hunts, and the dawn of civilisation itself. Seventeen years later, it mostly feels like a relic of a time when Hollywood still thought every sweeping vista and slow-motion charge could fix a thin script. The film follows a hunter on a quest to rescue his people and his love from a rival tribe. What could’ve been gritty and immersive instead leans heavily on glossy effects and grand speeches that sound like they were translated twice before delivery. The world looks impressive — desert dunes, icy peaks, and digital mammoths all working overtime — but it’s hard to connect when everything feels so polished it loses weight. There’s an earnestness to it, though. You can sense the ambition behind the spectacle, the attempt to capture that primal mix of wonder and fear at the birth of humanity. It just never quite finds the heartbeat beneath the CGI. Revisiting it now, 10,000 BC is a reminder of when epic meant big, loud, and occasionally hollow. It’s not bad — just more museum piece than masterpiece. 🍺 Pairing: A warm lager — once refreshing, now flat, but you still sip it for old times’ sake.
