Beautifully shot and editing, this is a great documentary which has an urgency and humanity to it. I was surprised.

Yanuni captures the urgency of Juma Xipaia’s fight to protect her community as Brazil shifts into a new political era, and the film is most affecting when it leans on the weight that she carries while showing up to resist day after day with little visible change. You can feel her wondering whether the wider world will ever recognize how its own consumption fuels the destruction of her homeland. An affecting and powerful portrait of resistance, but doesn’t have the rosiest outlook.
