Shortly after Katharina has given birth to little Franz after fertilization, she dies in a car accident. Her wife Ellen as the boy's guardian, has custody but is not allowed to adopt him - unlike in a heterosexual marriage. Suddenly Wolfgang, the biological father of the kid and even Katharina's parents stake out their claim.
