- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025Suddenly, the recent headlines about Jerry Seinfeld denigrating the current state of the film industry makes soooo much more sense. He’s was trying to get ahead of this painfully unfunny film directed and co-written by the man himself. What’s most astounding is the impressive collection of genuinely funny stars and comedians that have been assembled and yet the film failed to garner a single laugh. (Not hyperbole). Highly recommend, if you want to watch an endless string of punchlines fall silently to the ground the instant they’re spoken into existence. Outside of that morbid curiosity, avoid at all costs.
- tellumMay 29, 2025Madame Web saved this boomer bulls*** from being the worst movie of 2024.
- vangh1May 14, 2025A lot of this thing shows potential, conceptually, but it's crazy how flat so much of it falls given the amount of talent on screen. A lot of these jokes might cut it for a 2 minute YouTube short going for a cheap laugh, but for a feature length film it comes up WAY short. It doesn't know whether to take itself too seriously, or to lean into the absurd satire. It tries to be this larger than life historical juxtaposition, and despite having a space race, and a cold war, and a cartel, and a syndicate, and corporate espionage there are just no real stakes whatsoever. And I could could forgive that if it didn't feel like every joke was a first pass walk through. Christian Slater and Peter Dinklage stand out as the two actually putting in any real effort. Hugh Grant almost gets there. The two dolly-zoom shots on Jerry stand out as some of the worst acting I've seen in a long, long time.
