Carlo wins some money in a card game and goes to Rome to celebrate. Unfortunately he gets his money stolen and asks a friend of his for a loan. The friend is however about to get married. The future wife however changes her mind and leaves in a taxi with Carlo. Since the two are broke they spend the rest of the day trying to raise the money for the taxi fare which keeps getting higher by the minute. This surrealistic situation helps them fall in love with each other.
