John Smith, Lord Chetwood's head gardener, is an enigma. He is an artist and a philosopher. Lord Chetwood treats him as a friend and his son Michael Chetwood confides in him. One day a diamond brooch is stolen and Smith finds himself in the dock, accused of theft.
