- SamuelAugust 19, 2025Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life… But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin’ else.
- Kevin WardJuly 7, 2025Not sure why it took me so long to watch this. Always heard great things and it didn’t disappoint. Most notably, Danny Boyle’s direction is really excellent. The visualization of everything here is really well done without going all psychedelic on the visuals. Honestly it was a bit weird watching this the same day I watched an episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it certainly showcases some of Ewan McGregor’s incredible range as an actor. Honestly, Ewan’s entire filmography has some wildly different roles. This certainly paints a very bleak picture of addiction and the immense difficulty of escaping that lifestyle, but I was really surprised at the sort of hopeful tone the film takes, particularly in it’s ending. So often do stories like this end in miserable tragedy, it’s refreshing here that that’s not the case. Really great watch. And obviously, the soundtrack is killer.
- Frank RiebleMarch 9, 2025One of those films that sticks with me even after years. The unflinching storytelling, the insane performances, and the relentlessly driving soundtrack push me through the film every time—in the best way possible. It’s the kind of movie that instantly transports me back to a specific time. Deservedly a cult classic. I love it and make a point of rewatching it every few years.
