- flavo43November 22, 2025The 2012 Total Recall is a movie I can only really enjoy by refusing to see it as a remake of the Schwarzenegger classic. If I treat it as a fresh sci-fi action film loosely inspired by the same premise, it works surprisingly well. The story is quite interesting on its own terms, leaning into slick chases, identity confusion, and political intrigue. The world-building is strange—gravity elevators, stacked cities, and a very stylised future—but it’s visually striking and entertaining to explore for two hours. Colin Farrell handles the confused-everyman role well, and the supporting cast keeps the energy up. It never reaches the wild, pulpy charm or satirical bite of the original, but if you drop those expectations and accept it as “another take on the concept,” it’s a solid, fast-paced sci-fi ride that’s fun to revisit. Just don’t go in looking for Mars, quippy mutants, or classic one-liners.
