Tokyo Gore Police Ratings & Reviews
- gnrrainJanuary 3, 2026Not great, not bad either. I don't know what I was expecting but this was very strange, even for a hyper stylized Japanese horror film. The story felt off. Maybe it's me. The practical effects were great though. Worth a watch at least once but that's probably all it'll be getting from me.
- RichardOctober 25, 2025An over the top thrill ride soaked in blood, satire and pure chaos and yes, I watched it all. This one doesn’t tiptoe, it cannonballs into the deep end of splatter cinema. Set in a dystopian Tokyo where privatized police battle mutant rebels called “Engineers,” it’s part cyberpunk fever dream, part live action anime and all out gorefest. Eihi Shiina plays Ruka, a sword wielding cop with daddy issues and a vendetta. The plot? Thin. The visuals? Insane. Buckets of blood, flesh-morphing body horror and weaponized limbs, all delivered with the kind of practical effects that make you wince and grin at the same time. It’s not trying to be subtle. It’s trying to be unforgettable. And it is. From the faux commercials to the flamboyant costumes, it’s a sensory overload that feels like someone dared the filmmakers to go too far and they gleefully accepted. Definitely not for the squeamish, but if you grew up on VHS horror, late night anime and punk aesthetics, this one scratches a very specific itch. A cult classic in the most literal sense.
- Bryce G.December 30, 2025It's crazy that one of the girls at the club was dressed as a curse frog from dark souls.
- LegsanFebruary 11, 2025About as wild as I thought it would be! Absolutely loved the extremely over-the-top SFX, flamboyant costumes and classic violent OVA feel to it all too...yet its live action! Plot wise its very simple, but this obviously plays second fiddle to the real star of the movie: the gore...of which there are buckets. A bit too goofy to be taken seriously... but this is definitely meant to be more a visual spectacle and certainly not a noodle scratcher.
- NonPlayableContentJanuary 8, 2025Fun movie with lots of drinking game potential
- Adam AzulOctober 23, 2024Tokyo Gore Police is a 2008 sci-fi horror flick from Japan. This film boasts excessive violence, blending practical effects with buckets of blood and gore. Though some scenes can be described as overly excessive and the storyline is very thin, the viewer is treated with striking visuals that not only stand out from similar films in the genre but will nestle themselves in their minds for days to come. In some instances, that isn’t a good thing, but the film has enough positive to overlook some of the more head scratching scenes. Though it seems to try at times to strike an emotional chord, the film is still mostly aware of what it is and plays into that insanity quite well with violence and humor going hand in hand. It seems like the writers of this film after a certain point, weren't worried about whether they should do a scene, but rather how to do the scene as absurdly as possible. For this I couldn’t help but give them credit as what they produced may not be a cinematic masterpiece but was one fun ride. Tokyo Gore Police is not for everyone, but if you go in with low expectations, you may find some entertainment. Unless your squeamish, then you may want to pass this film.
