This is how you do a body horror film. A perfect blend of comedy, horror, and what the **** did I just watch moments.

At a high level, Together went in exactly the direction I was expecting without any real surprises. There are reveals that are really not that surprising even if the movie treats them as such. However, at a scene by scene level, I was pleasantly surprised by how effective a few of the horror sequences were. They were so over the top in a fun way that honestly had the audience gasping in shock. In fact, the movie was surprisingly comedic at times, and I definitely laughed. I think it was done in an intentional way where it felt like I was laughing with the movie and having fun instead of watching something that felt unintentionally terrible. This helped alleviate some of my concerns with the larger plot details feeling predictable because the smaller choices were all unique and unexpected. Allison Brie and Dave Franco both do really well with the expressive bodily motions in this movie to really drive home those sequences. They also complement each other's styles well despite feeling almost like polar opposites in terms of approach, with Brie playing a more verbal character and Franco going off the wall in terms of body language. I liked that this movie uses the horror element as a metaphor for a codependent relationship, and it was awesome to see the movie circle back to recontextualize a single line of dialogue in terms of both the relationship and the horror. Unfortunately, this is also where I think the movie has its greatest weakness. I think it presents a very clear relationship conflict that is mirrored by the supernatural elements. I felt like it glossed over the resolution where I don't exactly think it resolved the relationship issues in a meaningful way, instead focusing far more on the supernatural elements. It does have a resolution, just one that feels unearned. This makes the movie feel a bit muddled in terms of theme and messaging. It's a fun movie hampered by not being able to nail down its larger picture even if it is a nice surprise at the scene level.

I think by the closing credits the question on everyone's mind is - how can I put this delicately - what the hell is going on downstairs. I mean I can imagine how facially and whatnot two people combined might look, but what in the name of jeezo is happening with the bits and bobs? Is it a total train wreck down there? I've been thinking about this for weeks now. The makers of this movie have a lot of questions to answer.

Together takes a familiar relationship drama and pushes it into increasingly disturbing territory through some effective body horror. Dave Franco and Alison Brie make a believable couple whose relationship problems display well before the supernatural elements arrive to the film. The movie does a surprisingly good job overcoming this cliché though and uses its grotesque imagery to explore themes of codependency and unhealthy attachment and importantly commits to that idea from beginning to end to save it from seeming to be a simple excuse for shock value. Several sequences are only unsettling while others venture into territory that are both grueling to watch but at the same time, just impossible to look away from The film isn't without flaws. Some of the scares rely on familiar horror elements despite what I would say is overall a creative central premise. And without getting into specifics or spoilers, the unexpected ending left me with more questions than answers. I'm not convinced said conclusion is entirely earned either. With that said, Together succeeds far more often than it fails. Body horror is a subgenre that has always been crowded and increasingly so over recent years, so I don't think anyone could say that this film has something completely new. If you've seen the Substance, you'll be okay for anything in this movie. Overall though, the film feels more memorable than it does gimmicky, and that's enough to earn a solid 3.5 stars.

What a fun watch. Some solid scares and sticky skin crawling moments. Rats are never a good omen... Of all the creepy scenes, waking up like that.. what nightmares are made of. There is some perfectly placed comical rhetoric amongst the chaos as well as grilled horror cheese moments that will make you laugh. The premise is simple, an attractive dead beat boyfriend dreaming to be a music star moves to a country town with his smart school teacher lady. Hoping the new start will reignite the flames A romantic stroll in the forest turns awry. (We would only ever drink that water when on the cusp of dying. A that'll teach you moment). A shout out the special effects squad, I guess thats what it would look like if horror became reality!

A great body horror flick that entertains with its gruesome visuals and interesting lore. I found it totally engrossing and watchable and it does not overstay its welcome which is rare these days.

It’s The Fly meets When Harry Met Sally Together is the kind of film that makes you laugh, cringe, and question whether you should ever cuddle again. At its heart, it’s a dark comedy wrapped in a sticky, squirm-inducing body-horror love story The movie takes the most familiar idea—two people in love—and pushes it to its grotesque, hilarious extreme: what happens when love literally merges you into one? It’s both terrifying and oddly romantic. On one hand, the film captures the universal fear of engulfment: that losing yourself in love might mean losing yourself. Watching the characters peel away pieces of their independence (sometimes literally) makes you laugh nervously while also muttering, “Okay but… same.” And yet—beyond the absurd bodily fusion, there’s something divine about it. Together dares to show us love not as two halves completing a whole, but as a holy abomination: a single entity with too many eyes and just one beating heart. The devotion is so deep it becomes both monstrous and sacred, grotesque yet oddly beautiful. The humor works because it’s self-aware. The film knows how absurd love can feel—one minute you’re terrified of being swallowed alive, the next you’re worshipping your partner like a small household god. In short, Together is not your standard rom-com. It’s a love story for anyone who’s ever worried about losing their independence in a relationship—and then secretly wished for it anyway.
