- CravanThePugilist19 listopada 2025Maybe I'm just biased by how much I love Lena Dunham. & how impressed I am she wrote, directed, & starred in this film. But this was incredible. I LOVE Girls. One of my favourite series of all time. & you see the pieces being put together here, with the actors, the writing, everything. Particurlaly at the start - & I don't want to throw any shade here, but I'm gonna tell you the way I experienced the movie - it felt like... I couldn't tell if it was the writing or the acting that was taking a hit. But something felt off. I've seen a thousand indie movies, & this was feeling like... maybe a bit more indie than it wanted to be. As I went through more & more scenes set in the protagonist's apartment, I came to feel the main problem was Grace (at the time) Cyrus's acting. They did SO MUCH right - but somehow, it felt unrealistic in the end, like the character knew they were reading from a script & how to react to what the other character would say, etc. No diss at all to them as a person. I might become gender-fluid just to spend a minute with them cuz I started Googling a lot of shit during & after the movie, & Cyrus sounds pretty fkn on the level. But that's me, & why I gave it that score I gave it. If you were brain-damaged enough to read to this point, know I love you, & I also *probably* won't kill myself tonight.
