- Richard15. August 2025I still remember the moment I saw the DVD cover of Thumb Wars: The Phantom Cuticle A ridiculous, glorious parody of Star Wars starring actual thumbs with superimposed faces. It was 1999, and I was wandering through the DVD aisle when that cover stopped me in my tracks. A thumb Death Star? Another with cinnamon bun hair? I didn’t even hesitate. Into my basket it went. The film’s 27 minutes runtime was perfect: short enough to stay punchy, long enough to deliver a full parody arc. The jokes flew fast, the puns were relentless, and the thumb-based visual gags were weirdly brilliant. This wasn’t just a spoof, it was a love letter to Star Wars wrapped in latex and lunacy.
