They are day laborers at a pickup spot waiting to be selected-or not-for a job for which only three are required.Four are black and one is white. The white man is an ordinary guy about in his thirties. One black is young and wears glasses,another is older and wears glasses,one is a big tough type,and one is a slightly chunky middle class type. A pickup truck arrives. The driver is white and the five guys each try to crowd him hoping to be chosen. He pushes them back and picks the white guy first,then the tough looking black guy,then the young black guy with glasses. The pickup truck drives off with the 3 chosen men in back,and the other two guys walk away down the street.
