- Jacob O’Nealvor 4 TagenWith influences ranging from the supernatural to samurai this movie was fun. I have not had so much fun with an action sequence with such over the top violence and gore, including a beheading that I couldn’t stop grinnig. Zazie Beetz takes the lead for the first time in a film as a girl who gets a job as a maid at an exclusive apartment building in New York called The Virgil (named for Dante’s guide in Inferno) run by Patricia Arquette. She quickly introduces Beetz to other residents, a couple of them played by Heather Graham (Boogie Nights) and Tom Felton (Harry Potter films). She’s taken to her room where we soon discover that she is be sacrificed to an evil demon who has granted the residents a gift in exchange for sacrafices. So they hire maids that won’t be missed when their master requires fresh blood. But they didn’t know what they were in for with Beetz, a fresh out of prison scrapper who is damn good with a sword. The film has several levels to the hotel, each with a different theme, again referencing Dante’s Inferno. At one point we see the decadent floor that seemed much like the center part of Hieronymus Bosch’s famous painting “The Garden Of Earthly Delights”…or maybe it’s just me. This film was similar in theme to Ready Or Not, but the tone of the films are what separate them. The cast did a great job. The director gave the film a grindhouse/drive in feel but it felt like it was stretched longer than needed at just over 90 minutes if he wanted to make a drive in movie he should have gone all the way and cut it to 78 minutes or less. That was what those filmmakers did because it would save on the number of film reels that were shipped around to theaters, thereby cutting costs. But it made them tight and fast grindhouse fun. This could benefit from that sort of editing. Overall, I had a blast. The ending was a blast. Not gonna spoil it. In fact, I left out a lot of detail on purpose. But this a fun movie with lots to say about elite culture and classism as well as hiding symbols throughout to indicate the coming sacrifice. If you like revenge stories with a supernatural bent that play fast and loose with the rules then watch this film. You’ll come out of it at least appreciating the action.
- cultfilmliker27. März 2026Come for Zazie Beetz showing some ass. Stay for Zazie Beetz kicking some ass. So Tarantino-esque it even has a major foot fetish! Why did she have to put on pants tho SPOILERS BELOW ⬇️ Love that this iteration of Satan worship doesn’t seem to touch on eternal damnation! Idk how that works being you know he’s an angel cast down from heaven but I’m tired of asking questions! 2nd vertical head split I’ve seen in two days lol Probably should stop trying so shoot her with a shotgun if you want her alive! You are probably faster than the big guy if you had just climbed! Absolutely unhinged ending. Made no sense regarding the destruction of the entity and pretty sure the sister still has to perform regular human sacrifices! Loved seeing the dude from Insidious! - KGM SOSA28. März 2026I absolutely LOVED this film. I just saw this in theatres which is the ideal way to see this movie, it will never compare on streaming or even BluRay. I have so much to say about this movie & I can’t possibly cover it all but I will give my condensed thoughts. Firstly this movie feels very Tarantino meets Sam Raimi, matter of fact one of the first things that will cross your mind when seeing this is that it’s very blatantly inspired by & paying homage to ‘Kill Bill’ to the point that without the horror aspect it would be a near carbon copy or “rip off” of Kill Bill, however this film has its own merits to it so it’s definitely not a criticism. The stunt work is impeccable throughout all the action sequences, so I’m glad the Oscars now have a best stunts category because it was honestly very nice, I don’t know how much of the stunts were by stunt people vs performed by the the lead actress but regardless I was very impressed. The visual effects in this were truly exceptional, what makes it even better is that so much of the VFX were practical & not over reliant upon CG, on the contrary the balance between the 2 was perfect. There was a lot of gore filled practical FX especially pertaining to blood & body parts (severed heads, limbs, etc). Some of the effects pertaining to body parts were also very unique & creative (particularly with what they did to Heather Grahams character). The lead actress Zazie Beetz was mesmerising, she genuinely stole the show in EVERY single scene, from her sexiness (ngl I now have a crush on her), to her demeanour, attitude, & the way she balanced the perfect blend of badass stoicism & vulnerability, usually these sort of movies make female warriors so unrealistically tough without any vulnerability & it agitates me because that’s just not how women are, instead she’s tough but realistically picks & chooses when to go from full warrior mode to knowing when to hide & run away. Now to touch on her sex-appeal in this movie, I’m sure there’s somebody that might find it over the top but I personally loved the outfits choice from the wardrobe department, it’s clear that it’s fanservice, from having her fight in a tight shirt & her underwear, to having her nipples poking through her shirt in a different outfit, as well as all the shots of her feet, but it never felt exploitative or over the top, it was very tasteful & really contributed to the aesthetic of the film. Other than Zazie Beetz, I also really enjoyed Heather Grahams performance as well, although Zazie was the highlight of the entire film. The movie was shot & framed beautifully, the set itself was nice, but more importantly the framing using wide shots, high-octane camera movement, & the anime-esque style shots were extremely aesthetic. As I said though the film did draw on inspiration heavily, it had title cards to flash back to characters arcs that felt very reminiscent of Kill Bill, as well as the action sequences feeling like a modernized ‘Kill Bill’, to its heavy use of the ‘bullet time’ effect invented by the matrix, that’s the effect where time either slows down or halts completely in the middle of an action sequence, like when in the matrix the camera pans around trinity while mid air during a kick or when Neo dodges the bullets, one example of this visual effect was was when Asia (Zazie) is jumping towards somebody with an axe while a table is in the air & her enemy shoots the table into pieces as she passes through the debris & assassinates her enemy in which the moment is in slow motion with a camera pan, hence the bullet time effect, this famous visual effect is done multiple times throughout the film. The highlight of the film for me is the first action sequence/battle scene in her room when she hides in the wardrobe then viciously mows through 5-6 enemies, this is one example of what I mean by going from vulnerable to assassin mode done perfectly, but the reason this scene is the peak sequence of the film for me was the choreography of the entire battle, it is one of the best, if not THE best, fight choreography I’ve seen in a modern film, I loved every moment of the sequence, I won’t overexplain the entire fight but just the way furniture is used in the fight was well crafted & totally awesome. The twists were honestly decent & unexpected & I commend the fact that the trailer didn’t spoil them for once, so often a movies trailer in an effort to sell the film gives too much away but the trailer for this movie only used the action to sell you & didn’t spoil any of the twists or even the supernatural elements to the film, I won’t cover them here because it’s a brand new movie. However for criticism I only have 2 real complaints worthy of voicing here. Firstly I was highly annoyed to find out that they pandered to test audiences by toning down & removing some of the brutality inflicted upon Zazie’s character Asia, from what I read right before writing this is that test audiences loved Zazie’s character so much & found her so endearing (rightfully so) that they “had a really hard time with it” & “the audience didn’t appreciate it” & “found it difficult to watch her go through such a gauntlet” (quote: TheWrap); They shouldn’t have pandered to those test audiences which are certainly not qualified screenwriters but rather just randoms going off vibes. Although the movie did manage to create high stakes, a truly compelling story always has high stake brutality & I honestly feel like we lost something by dialling down the brutality she endured. I really hope we get an extended cut that puts that stuff back in. My only other criticism is, the film for the most part had a really nice score, but I thought the female rap song in the middle of the second last battle scene was awful & was used solely to be “hip” but in reality ruined the vibe of that battle, despite being a creative & visually appealing battle in a pitch black dark room with an axe lit on fire as the enemies catch on fire progressively lighting up the room as the battle intensifies, such an awesome scene visually but the rap song was terrible. Overall I really did love this movie so much though & feel like I want to give it a 10/10, however I’m afraid my rating will get discounted in the IMDB weighing process, also I feel like I want to give it a rewatch before pulling the trigger on the 10 so for now I’m going to give it a 9/10 (9/10 → Amazing / Loved it / Nearly perfect) P.s. The dude who licked her feet is just like me fr😂
- Robertvor 7 TagenThis was an absolute blast! A thrill ride of a movie with meaningful action lasting from start to finish. Definitely worth watching, I could see this falling into heavy rotation for most cinephiles. If I had to compare it to other films, it would actually be difficult to do... But the closest I'd be able to come is by combining The Running Man, Big Trouble in Little China and a little hint of old slaughterhouse gore mixed in for good measure. I can't imagine someone that loves cinema not enjoying this movie. Watch it!
- Oʂɯαʅԃσ Rσყҽƚƚ28. März 2026They Will Kill You is exactly the kind of chaotic, blood-soaked ride I was hoping for and then some. Going in, I expected something in the lane of Ready or Not or Boy Kills World, but what I got was a wild hybrid with a heavy dose of grindhouse splatter that fully commits to its insanity.
- Rick23. März 2026My favorite satanic cult vs badass bitch movie of March 2026. See this in a full theater, the crowd reactions easily contributed a half star. 👁️ iykyk
- Michael Harrison27. März 2026Look at me watching more Horror. Can you count this as horror? Horror comedy I guess? Anyway I went in pretty blind to this with only seeing a few clips of the trailer and I'm not 100% what I think of it. I very much enjoyed alot of the camera work but something felt a little off to me, maybe I needed it more horror? (Not like the trailers beforehand though) It was very quick which is a good thing, it wasn't boring at any point and the story moved along.
