Born from the vhs era of b-movies found in mom and pop video stores, Troma blasted onto the scene with films that were low on money but high on blood guts and boobs. If you grew up renting tapes that were always sticky for reasons you’d rather not ask, this film feels like that. The cardboard sleeve, the torn “Be Kind Rewind” sticker, the warped tracking lines—it’s that same energy bottled up, but blasted on a 2025 cinema screen. And here’s where the movie shocks you: under all the slime, gore, and absurdity, it actually cares. The story of a hapless nobody turned deformed anti-hero has moments that almost play like real drama. A father-son arc actually hits. Themes of corruption, pollution, and corporate greed somehow land harder than you’d expect from a film where a guy’s face gets deep-fried in radioactive sludge. The magic trick is balance. Just when you think the movie’s leaning too far into sincerity, someone’s intestines gets ripped out. It’s a tonal tightrope act, wobbling between parody and pathos, and somehow never falling completely on its face. Peter Dinklage brings a gravitas to a role that we didn’t know could have it. He goes places with the character we never thought we’d see from Toxie. Some things I still wish I didn’t see… The Toxic Avenger (2025) isn’t for the squeamish, the easily offended, or anyone who thinks superhero cinema should be “elevated.” But for the rest of us? It’s a blast of absurd, grotesque joy that knows exactly what it is—a trash-fire cult classic in the making. Would Lloyd Kaufman be proud? Hell yes. Would Blockbuster have hidden this behind the counter? Absolutely.It’s not high art, I wouldn’t even say it’s great. But it is fun in its own weird way.

Peter Dinklage steps into the slime as Winston Gooze, the put-upon janitor who gets dunked in toxic hell and rises as our favorite grotesque do-gooder, except this time with actual acting chops, razor-sharp timing, and a physique that makes the original’s foam-rubber suit look like amateur hour. Macon Blair directs this like he snorted pure Troma spirit but then remembered he could afford real lights and a cast that includes Kevin Bacon as the sleaziest villain since Kevin Bacon usually, Elijah Wood doing his wide-eyed chaos thing, and Taylour Paige bringing heart to the chaos. The gore? Oh honey, it’s upgraded, practical effects so juicy and inventive you’ll cheer when a head gets creatively pulverized, then immediately feel bad about cheering because it’s that kind of movie. One scene involving a treadmill and bad life choices had me cackling like a hyena on bath salts. It keeps the spirit: environmental satire, underdog heroism, blind girlfriend romance (sweet without getting sappy), and buckets of bodily fluids. But it polishes the rough edges just enough, better pacing, actual emotional beats, and jokes that land instead of just splatting. Still gloriously nasty, still proudly lowbrow in the best way, but now with a budget that lets the absurdity breathe instead of choke on its own low-fi charm. Not for the faint-hearted or anyone who thinks superhero movies should be “serious.” If you’re here for a punk-rock, sludge-drenched middle finger to corporate greed wrapped in cartoon violence and genuine weird heart, this is your jam. Peter crushes it (literally), the practical gore is chef’s kiss disgusting, and it somehow makes you root for a green mutant janitor who talks like a Shakespearean trash panda. Eight-and-a-half toxic barrels out of ten. Watch the unrated cut if you can, because why settle for less slime when the full vat is available? Embrace the goo, darlings. It’s filthier, funnier, and weirdly more lovable than you deserve. 💚☢️

It completely took me by surprise as I believed that it would be along the same line as the original movie but it ended up being weird, stylish and absolutely hilarious. Peter Dinklage absolutely nailed it and I will highly recommend this movie to anyone who is planning a fun and light-hearted movie night

- Allen Brink27 dicembre 2025Cool movie nice remake But you can tell butt hurt left wingers wrote this trying to self insert themselves as heroes despite poilitical terrorism being exclusively left wing these days. The miss meat hostage scene was a classic example of this. Right wing characters doing left wing terrorism.

- CarbonDJ3 novembre 2025Remaking a classic? Man. Not sure. But wow. This was super enjoyable and they kept enough B-movie silliness and camp. The villains made me chuckle (everyone loves a parkour guy). Performances were spot on for the tone of the movie.
