The scientists love to blow up world-changing discoveries on a dime and make the worst decisions on how to transport another lifeform. However, this movie is amazing because of it. There was a moment where I even jumped, which is rare for a 1950's movie for me! It's really good!
- RichardAugust 31, 2025Watching this film is like cracking open a time capsule from the golden age of sci-fi and finding that it still pulses with life. Unlike the grotesque transformations of Carpenter’s 1982 remake, this alien is more Frankenstein. The suspense builds steadily, with clever use of shadow, sound and claustrophobic spaces. You can see its DNA in everything from Alien to The X-Files. If you’re into vintage sci-fi with brains and a dash of Cold War paranoia, this one’s worth defrosting.
