The Severed Arm Ratings & Reviews
- Matthias_812April 3, 2025Begins as a survival thriller before turning into a proto-slasher! Predating Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, When A Stranger Calls, even Black Christmas and Deathdream! It's insane how many of those movies (coincidentally or not) lift an element from The Severed Arm. Even the score had to have some sort of influence on John Carpenter, in fact this was the first feature where all music was composed digitally. I think this truly deserves major recognition in slasher and horror cinema history.
- eif999January 24, 2025A group of selfish 70s Ayn-Rand types resort to cannibalism when they’re left for a week trapped in a mine. Shortly before being rescued they eat an unwilling man’s arm (off screen.) Instead of doing everything for the man they dump him and pretend it didn’t happen. In the end the bearded jerk who came up with the arm eating is caught and begs for his life from a small room he’s locked in. He reminds me of the devil in the classic Twilight Zone The Howling Man. Appropriate. Like other horrors like Cult of the Cobra I spent the whole film rooting for everyone to be killed. The soundtrack does all the hard work and it slaps.
