The Ruby Circle

At an embassy ball Robert Carlton meets the girl of his dreams. He is attracted by an odd ring she wears, a circle of perfectly matched rubies. The following evening Carlton is jostled by an evil-looking fellow. Pausing to light a cigarette, he discovers a ring upon the sidewalk, a counterpart of that worn by the girl he loves.
