The Rock Ratings & Reviews
- RichardOctober 21, 2025Saw it in the cinema and I still wonder if John Patrick Mason was really 007 doing time. This one’s a high octane, Bay blasted thrill ride with just enough grit and charisma to make it a ’90s classic. Sean Connery plays Mason, a mysterious British operative locked away without trial and let’s be honest, the film never says “James Bond,” but it winks so hard it practically shouts it. Nicolas Cage is the twitchy chemical weapons expert, Ed Harris is the morally tormented general and the whole thing unfolds like a symphony of explosions, slow motion dives and military grade banter. The Alcatraz setup is pure action gold and Hans Zimmer’s score gives it that operatic punch. Connery walks through this like a retired MI6 agent who’s had enough of martinis and is ready to blow up a shower room. If this wasn’t a stealth Bond sequel, it’s the closest we’ll ever get.
- carter2882January 15, 2026The Rock is an exciting, excellent adventure that keeps you invested all the way through. The plot is very intriguing and hooks you immediately. The motive of the villain is actually very interesting and something you don’t really see common with most villains now days. The cast is very good and all play likeable characters, even the villain. The action sequences are very exciting, intense, and will have you cheering by the end. The film even has a good soundtrack that makes the movie even better. So overall an amazing classic that is definitely one of Micheal Bays best movies.
- kleona85June 29, 2025It is a great movie. I have watched it several times and I am sure that again
- keithy077September 25, 2025Classic. Just a great 90s action movie. Nothing more nothing less.
- fredbeardSeptember 1, 2025It has its moments but it's a great popcorn flick to enjoy.
- Doc WormJanuary 9, 2026Michael Bay and Chipotle are pretty similar. Mostly because they offer up big heapings of slop and I keep coming back for more. Why? Because sometimes it’s good and I hope for more of it upon my next visit. This is one of those great visits. It’s a big nonsensical blast with great set pieces and a killer cast.
- JakeysDecember 26, 2025Pretty cheesy, not Cage's best work. Connery and Harris absolutely deliver, but overall the movie is good but not great. As an aside, I love the fan theory that Connery is secretly playing Bond. I think it was debunked but you get a bit extra out of watching the movie that way.
- ZokkiieDecember 23, 2025This is a quintessential ‘90s action movie. The cast is awesome—Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage do their thing, and Ed Harris is as intense as ever. Plus, it's cool to see David Morse and John Spencer—both from The Negotiator—in The Rock as well. They bring their own kind of energy to their roles, and it’s fun seeing them again. The action’s fast-paced, the plot’s straightforward, and it’s definitely a good time if you love high-stakes action movies.
- Wesley BDecember 6, 2025One of Michael Bays best films, with perfect casting and great action sequences, is also one of the best movies of the 90s
