Ferrell and Wahlberg are a great buddy cop duo, there are some genuinely hilarious jokes and unexpected moments, Michael Keaton is putting on a comedy clinic, much of the supporting cast is great too. The plot itself is pretty forgettable but the beats along the way are top notch. "They chased us twenty miles!" is my favourite moment in the whole thing, I think. Just the sheer unexpected madness of the main characters exiting the scene and the story completely moving on, only to reintroduce the bit characters from the last scene who ran twenty miles on foot to the correct location in the middle of the night... absurd brilliance.

The movie knows it is ridiculous, and it embraces that completely. Even with all the comedy, the movie has a surprising emotional warmth. You can feel Mark Wahlberg’s frustration and Will Ferrell’s quiet desire to stay unnoticed until he finally steps up. The growth of their partnership feels genuine. They go from arguing constantly to trusting each other fully. That little bit of heart makes the movie feel more complete than just a comedy full of chaos. The supporting cast is amazing too. Characters played by Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, and Samuel L Jackson all add personality and hilarious moments. Each one brings something memorable that adds to the film’s energy.
