The Omen still holds up quite well today, although its age and the distinctly period-specific style of storytelling are clearly noticeable. It is a classic piece of cinema, with all the consequences of that status - both in terms of pacing and the way suspense is built - yet it also remains interesting as a document of a bygone era. The atmosphere is still present, largely thanks to Jerry Goldsmith’s score, which consistently heightens the sense of unease and guides the viewer’s emotions. However, the horror itself has largely weakened over the years - what once worked on the imagination now often functions more as a stylistic element than a genuine source of fear. The strongest aspect remains the acting, especially David Warner as the inquisitive journalist. The film still manages to draw you in with its slowly intensifying atmosphere, which steadily builds tension and holds attention until the end, but there is no denying that this style of portraying devilry and occult themes has become somewhat dated.

This one's a classic! Creepy vibes, solid suspense, and Gregory Peck kills it. The kid, Damien? Straight-up terrifying. It’s a little old-school, but still got that eerie atmosphere that makes you second-guess everything. If you’re into supernatural horror, definitely check it out

I don’t know what I was thinking when I rated this film 3 stars when I first saw it eight years ago. It’s pretty terrific.

Have been meaning to watch The First Omen for a while now, but figured I should probably cross this off The Shame List first. So good, as expected. It’s much less about a creepy kid as I thought it would be and leans much more heavily into the unsettling religious horror.
