The Name of the Rose Ratings & Reviews
- NewFilmsAnonymousNovember 17, 2025You're telling me there was a time where young Men were taught they could live a life of purpose without worshipping women? BLASPHEMY!
- Tom MajskiNovember 30, 202514th century Shardlake style murder mystery set in an Abbey starring Sean Connery? What's not to like? So ok, its fine, good even. The movie itself is a little plodding and the mysteries never really twist and turn enough to justify the run time. But the cast and setting are both excellent. Whilst Connery is as good as you'd hope, he doesn't being anything new. Young Christian Slater and Ron Pearlman stand out in a stellar supporting cast however. A rag tag band of slightly odd fellows with distinct personalities and looks give a good eerie vibe to the whole affair. This is doubled down on by fantastic location shoots, lighting and mood. Its all wonderful strange and creepy whilst feeling wholly authentic to the era. Enjoyable and worth watching but it doesn't reach the highs for me that it seems to for some.
- Dave BrodbeckJune 11, 2025Great performance by Connery, Slater is also excellent in this adaptation of the novel.
