The Mask Ratings & Reviews
- javierdlopezMarch 10, 2025Classic comedy from the early 90s. Jim Carey’s and Cameron Diaz’s Hollywood debut. Fun & funny story. Not meant to be taken seriously. Surprisingly good special effects for its time.
- ayayronFebruary 16, 2025Cameron Diaz is s-ssss-ssss-sssss-smokin'!
- JakeysDecember 26, 2025I couldn't imagine anyone other than Jim Carrey pulling off this role. Still, it's a bit too childish to fully enjoy as an adult.
- AaronDecember 21, 2025Classic must see of Jim carry!
- TheDesertLadDecember 6, 2025Pretty obvious this movie inspired a LOT of millennial humor we see today in the 2010s and 2020s... What is funny is that this movie is funny for all the reasons it wasn't originally written for. It wants you to laugh at one joke that isn't funny, but does something mild that's funnier than you think.
- Ecto-1ANovember 18, 2025💚 Proof that CGI didn’t need to be good… just goofy. What’s unique about The Mask is that it still holds up even after 30 years. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Jim Carrey takes this violent, off-the-wall comic and brings it to life on the big screen, all while reshaping it into something broader, funnier, and more kid-friendly. At a time when Hollywood was leaning heavily on CGI and when the technology was still in its infancy, The Mask somehow makes it work. Its blend of live-action realism and exaggerated cartoon visual effects feels intentional, playful and completely in sync with the movie’s personality. The film never takes itself too seriously, and it shouldn’t; its charm comes from leaning into the absurd. Even though Carrey had been working in film for over a decade, it was his “1994 trilogy” that catapulted him into full-blown superstardom. The Mask stands out among them for its unique mix of style, humor and early CGI that somehow still looks great today.

- mickerdooAugust 17, 2025Too long and over the top. Highly stylized. Carrey is the only vehicle that redeems. Crazy this is one of Diaz's first. She looks great.

- Nishant AroraJune 5, 2025A whirlwind of cartoonish energy and pure cinematic chaos, *The Mask* is a landmark 90s comedy that served as the perfect vessel for the meteoric rise of Jim Carrey. It’s a film that bursts off the screen with a manic, Looney Tunes-inspired glee. The Good: Jim Carrey delivers an iconic, once-in-a-generation performance, a tour de force of physical comedy and frenetic energy that the film is built around entirely. The visual effects were groundbreaking for their time, brilliantly translating the physics of classic animation into a live-action world. The film also features a star-making debut from Cameron Diaz, whose charm and screen presence are undeniable, and the zoot-suit, swing-era aesthetic gives it a unique and memorable style. The Bad: Outside of Carrey's electrifying performance, the plot is a rather thin and generic gangster story. The non-Mask scenes with Stanley Ipkiss can drag, feeling like filler until the green-faced chaos erupts again. The tone can also be a bit uneven, occasionally dipping into moments and jokes that feel dated or slightly too dark for the otherwise zany atmosphere. An absolute blast of anarchic fun, *The-Mask* is a testament to the sheer power of a comedic genius unleashed, even if its story is a bit conventional.
