Where to Watch The Last House
- Christopher Weed1d agoA well made film. High production value, decent acting and visual fx; all in favor of a pretty weak concept. So, brace yourself for dissappointment in the final act, and you might have a good time with it. Just don't think much about the mechanics of it all.
- MrTrivet1d agoWe got a film with Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, but under Netflix’s usually ambitious direction - what’s even the point? The film has a pretty neat, intriguing premise and manages to be genuinely engaging for about the first half. I imagine that for many families, a situation like this would be a real test of how close-knit they actually are. The claustrophobic survival story, constant rain, and lurking threat outside the window create an atmosphere that effectively brings back some COVID-era trauma. There’s something of early Shyamalan here - a mysterious situation that becomes an excuse to explore something deeper about human nature, while also keeping the viewer guessing. Unfortunately, though, this is primarily a gimmick movie, built around an artificial situation designed to lead to some interesting reflection. The problem comes when it’s time to bring that idea to its conclusion. The Lovecraftian monsters don’t really fit with the film’s underlying message, and instead of deepening the themes, the finale ultimately flattens them. It’s a shame, because the movie is really pretty, potential was there, and the cast is clearly better than the material they were given.

- lulzenberg4d agoReally wasn't that bad, I'm a bit taken back by the reviews. The acting was decent, the filmography was good, the premise was a bit far fetched.. but so are a lot of movies. Seen a lot worse movies with far higher RT and IMDB ratings. Is it life changing? No. Is it entertaining? Yeah. I don't regret the time spent watching it.

- Garrett WilkinsAugust 30, 2026Louis Leterrier establishes an effective atmosphere in The Last House, using dim naturalistic lighting and the isolation of its surroundings to make the setting feel increasingly oppressive. The sparse sound design adds to that unease without constantly announcing when something frightening is supposed to happen. Greta Lee gives Ann a grounded emotional presence that helps keep the film from becoming too detached, while Wagner Moura brings an intensity that makes Jason's strained behavior difficult to ignore. There is a real sense that Leterrier is trying to build something more psychological than a straightforward thriller, and the early stretches suggest that the film might have the patience to pull it off. Unfortunately, that patience eventually becomes the problem. The film repeatedly returns to the same domestic friction and conversational standstill without creating enough escalation, making The Last House feel considerably longer than its runtime. Moura's intensity is often trapped inside a script that keeps circling instead of pushing the characters somewhere new, while even Lee's steady performance can't fully compensate for the lack of momentum. There are enough interesting ideas and serious intentions here to keep the film from being a total misfire, but the slow-burn approach never develops into the kind of tension it seems to promise. The Last House ultimately spends too much time traveling down the same stretch of road without giving us enough reason to care where it leads.

- ZokkiieAugust 29, 2026The first half is actually pretty decent. There's a good setup, some solid tension and a few performances that help keep things going. It also looks pretty good, with some nice locations and shots that give it a more polished feel than the story deserves. Then the last act completely loses it. Everything goes way too far, the plot starts falling apart, and the amount of plot holes and stuff that makes absolutely no sense just keeps piling up. There are still a few good moments, but by the end it feels like the movie has completely forgotten what kind of story it was trying to tell.
