Directed by Gillies MacKinnon6.650%69%6.5
Widower Tom, on the recent passing of his wife Mary, uses his free bus pass to travel the length of Britain from John O'Groats in Caithness to Land's End in Cornwall, their shared birthplace, using only local buses. It's an incident-fuelled nostalgia trip and his encounters with local people make him a media phenomenon. Tom is totally unaware and to his surprise on arrival at Land’s End he’s greeted as a celebrity.
- stuhannafordApril 22, 2026Overly sentimental, forced emotion, decidedly am-dram and far too quaint. On far too many occasions, I felt scenes were created for effect, rather than creating coherence, insincerely trying to tug at the heart strings in some kind of emotional blackmail. And if a scene wasn't doing that, it seemed an endless search for metaphors instead. It also suffers from a decidedly rose tinted view of human nature, and, I might add, a weird fondness and celebration of social media mixed in. Sappy nonsense that even Spall can't save.
