The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Ratings & Reviews
- ricomckee19h agoThis was a decent remake that pays homage to the original with some updated aspects. However, it played very much like a made for TV movie. Additionally, the twist sort of came out of nowhere. There was some good carnage though but the character relationships were lacking. Worth a watch but is no where near the original.
- Hipster ZOMBIE1d agoHollywood looked at a slick, psychosexual 90s thriller and said, “Let’s remake this with… absolutely none of the thriller, zero of the psycho, and if anyone even thinks about being sexy? Arrest them.” Look, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Maika Monroe are legit scream-queens and indie-darling royalty. They’ve got the chops, the menace, the range — they could’ve delivered a chilling, seductive game of domestic chess with knives behind every smile. Instead we get a movie that feels like it escaped from the Lifetime 2 p.m. slot. Weird “low-budget queer tension” energy that isn’t dangerous, isn’t seductive, and sure as hell isn’t exciting. Just two women staring at each other like they’re trying to decide who gets custody of the last oat-milk latte. Listen, representation is great — but when every movie and show turns lesbian characters into androgynous, emotionally muted, beige-on-beige personality vacuum mannequins, it stops being daring and starts being… Boring. This remake didn’t just drop the cradle — it set it down gently, apologized for being aggressive, and then asked the cradle how it was feeling. A thriller with its nails trimmed, edges rounded, and teeth filed down — the cinematic equivalent of decaf tea at 4 PM. The cradle may rock… but this movie just gently sways and asks if everyone’s comfortable.
- Josh COctober 22, 2025Take note, Hollywood, THIS is how you do a remake. They did this movie very smart where it’s *only* the same concept of the original (crazy nanny) and nothing else is the same. They basically colored the picture with different colors which is really nice because then you’re not constantly comparing the two films. I thought both lead actresses did great and they did a really good job at sort of building the suspense up. I liked it and I like how they gave us the familiar premise, but took a different route to get from A to B
- rampage982d agoFinally got around to watching this thriller. It was a great remake of the original movie and the writing kept up the thrills to the end. Some of it was a bit of a stretch, but well within context of the story. A must watch!
- UniqueMovies Deb H5d agoA must see and worth the watch!! 💥🎃💥 This is spooktober month everybody. ✨👻✨ Happy Halloween!💫👹💫
- Derek3d agoIt’s the remake no one asked for - it was surprisingly decent. I’m usually not a fan of remakes, and nothing will ever top the original with Ernie Hudson and Rebecca De Mornay, but this version actually managed to modernize the story without making it annoying.
- Tom Cooper5d agoIt's okay. Not a patch on the original but something to kill the time.
- rg94006d agoI watched this movie entirely because of Maika Monroe who I feel is extremely talented despite being often relegated to horror movies only. This movie isn't exactly horror, and while I recognize it is a remake, it also feels very familiar to other movies within this genre. I think you can more or less predict high level plot beats, but the movie spends a lot of time before the shoe finally drops. I think I personally got antsy waiting for it to finally get to the point, and I don't think anything this movie will be doing will feel particularly new or innovative, often times feeling a bit soapy instead of really standing out amongst the rest of the movies in this genre. I do think the plot had potential to go beyond these trappings, but it just takes way too long to go to those interesting places. It does get kind of fun at the end where the movie has no issue becoming slightly campy and over the top. The real draw of this movie is the acting. Maika Monroe is excellent as usual, but I actually was surprised by Mary Elizabeth Winstead who I did not recognize at all. Both play off each other really well, and they oscillate between campy and grounded really well. I think they make this movie a lot more interesting than it really was, and it's a shame that the script could not support them. Also, if you are into interior design, this movie has a lot of shots and focus on that for some reason. Overall, it didn't feel like a waste of time because of the actresses, but it did feel like it wasted the talent of the actresses.
- cubano116d agoNot a bad movie. I like both the old and the new version.
- mrjiminycricket6d agopretty good, like 'the gift' but way worse. 2.5 stars - gordo the weirdo
- Dan S Turpin6d agoDumb trash. Gutless and timid
- Robert Whitley6d agoNot a bad movie. Personally I prefer the original. Maybe because I like Rebecca Di Mornay so much.
