The Green Knight Ratings & Reviews
- fend988January 16, 2026Horrible
- j.pete6February 19, 2025Hasn't left my mind for months now, amazing movie.
- karl.closeDecember 21, 2025Very odd, Life of Pi style movie. Not bad, just odd.
- Joe GNovember 25, 2025A film I want to enjoy far more than I do. The visuals are excellent—the setting, cinematography, costume design, and overall aesthetic are consistently strong. Yet the CGI work leaves a lot to be desired and undermines the otherwise rich visual world. The story aims high. There is a clear attempt to engage with metaphors about nature and paganism versus man and religion, and with the idea that what men strive for is often silly, fleeting, or unattainable without sacrificing ourselves. But much of this requires the viewer to do the heavy lifting. The themes feel murky and undefined—sometimes intentionally, sometimes not—and the film drags under the weight of its own ambiguity. It’s a difficult balance between telling and showing, clarity and mystery, symbolism and narrative momentum. This film tries to hold that balance and never quite succeeds.
- TomVaderNovember 22, 2025Beautiful scenery, questionable plot, confusing storytelling, and just weird.
- Patrick D.August 12, 2025What did I just watch? This is pure A24 injected straight into your veins. Very weird, very well done. This film is a unicorn because I actually agree with the critics (89%) on Rotten Tomatoes and think the audience (50%) is way off. Something to keep in mind, this is the King Arthur tale, but it's still an A24 movie. This reminded me of when I watched The Witch. I was expecting a classic horror movie and was not ready for a folklore period piece. If you go into The Green Knight expecting a classic fantasy epic, you're gonna have a bad time.
- lsalaverriaNovember 4, 2025Awesome
- TonyFecteauNovember 2, 2025It was quite strange but oddly captivating.
- jackmeatAugust 6, 2025My quick rating - 5.4/10. So hard to review a movie that looks so good, has some decent performances top to bottom, yet misses on so much. Even though it is very watchable, it isn't the masterpiece some are claiming. It is just so slow that at times I would swear, you remove the exceptional score from the equation, and you would be hard-pressed to know anything is going on. I felt I was watching a compilation of scenes that happened to the same person, and were stitched together to be a movie. I did NOT read the actual poem, but I really hope it is better than this flick at explaining. I know this is trying to explain the knight's virtues in some way, but it never really gives an ancient tale with a message of courage, honesty, and sexual morality, which, from what I have read online, is what the poem is about. In a nutshell, the story is about King Arthur's nephew who steps up and accepts a challenge from the "Green Knight," who waltzes into the royal court with his ultimatum. Challenge him in one year's time, well, there is more to the challenge, but I won't take away from the complete lack of story and spoil it LOL. Once the year is nearly up, he must embark to where the Green Knight resides and, during this trip, faces ghosts, giants, and thieves, among other things that sound like they would be exciting. Things look great, but there just isn't any excitement or wonder to any of these things. They just happen. The way I saw it was like staring at a Jackson Pollock. Yes, it looks like a bunch of random crap, but in the end, you can tell it was pretty good. I haven't seen a movie that is going to easily range from love and hate, 2-9 ratings, so easily. And I won't fault anyone for leaning either direction. I am just in the middle.
- Jacob BratcherJuly 25, 2025This is the perfect film. A flawless depiction of the Hero's journey. 11/10 cool. Will watch again.
- Roxanne NesbittOctober 31, 2024Very slow burb burn but very satisfying
- Kevin WardJuly 6, 2025My oldest son saw the trailer for this a while back and when we were choosing what to watch on this evening he suggested this. Having seen it already, I secretly knew he would probably hate this movie (along with the rest of my family). 😈 I loved getting to watch this again, though. Love the immensely rich visuals and the cryptic storytelling. Definitely not a great family watch. But seeing the look on their faces during the final shot was priceless. 😆
- Mister ArnMay 18, 2025"The Green Knight" is visually impressive, and the cinematography is the star. The story is thin and difficult to follow.
- theLillyPadFebruary 17, 2025Myths and Legends are nothing if not stories about heroes who embody the values of their culture going out and creating order out of chaos. In a world where Disney and Errol Flynn are so influential in the genre, the Green Knight helps to remind the modern viewer exactly how horrifying and mystifying that chaos at the edges of the unknown world really was. Dev Patel is excellent in his role, but the set and sound design is really what brings it home. A great film for anyone who loves Arthurian Legend, and almost anyone who doesn't.
