The Grand Budapest Hotel Ratings & Reviews
- AngusMcNutzJune 5, 2025Whenever I approach a Wes Anderson film for the first time, there's usually some lingering feeling of caution or restraint. Something inside me that says "Don't get too excited. Don't let yourself get swept up. Just maintain criticality so you can be objective." After years of seeing this film over and over, I can confirm that all that goes out the window almost immediately, no matter what kind of mood I am in or what mindset I choose to fruitlessly maintain. This is, by far, one of the truest representations of the magic of cinema. Anderson's other works have their place and their own individual impacts, for sure, but The Grand Budapest Hotel stands boldly and proud as the culmination of meticulous detail and genuinely heart-opening writing. I implore you to delve into cast and crew anecdotes from this production and you'll find a constant throughline of care, craft and sheer adoration for how this film came together. Themes like nostalgia, loyalty and class are so easy to produce but difficult to truly master, yet this film knows exactly what to do with them and, more importantly, who do execute them with. To say this film is well casted is an extensive minimization and it speaks to Anderson's ability to create comfort within roles that let actors truly engage with the subtlety of their personas. Do yourself a favor. Watch this movie when you're having a bad day.

- nikjones522July 27, 2025Fun movie with amazing cinematography. Wes Anderson has done it again with his fast pace humor and gorgeous visuals. If you liked Fantastic Mr. Fox, this is a grown-up version of that movie.
- Kevin WardJune 30, 2025Loved pretty much all of the visuals. Beautifully and meticulously framed as always, but this is definitely most I have enjoyed his general aesthetic. Enjoyed pouring over the details in each frame. Also, really loved Fiennes performance along with Revolori. Glad tonfinally cross this off the Shame List. And while I think it’s probably my favorite of his films thus far, I still feel largely the same about all of them. I appreciate the craft and the construction, but I find I’m seldom moved emotionally by any of the story. Can’t put my finger on it, but I just always feel emotionally flat watching his films. Maybe it’s the deadpan, the flat camera angles, the voiceover narration, the frequent story within a story structure…not sure. I definitely enjoy the craft. Like popup storybooks come to life.
- mickerdooJune 24, 2025Delightfully quirky, fun and riotous. Anderson delivers another unique eye-popping masterpiece. Great core performances and fun appearances.
- Jonathon PackJune 5, 2025As I've been journeying through some Wes Anderson filmography lately, I've wondered if his movies just aren't my thing. However, this one was very engaging and entertaining. You win this round, Wes. Also, Ralph Fiennes is the best.
- Movies are good22May 31, 2025"GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY LOBBY BOY!" OK, ummm… I think I have another addition to add to my already weird journey with this movie So I have seen this movie a couple times, now in fact, it maybe my most rewatched film in Andersons filmography but that's not because my relationship with this movie was simple cuz I have had the oddest relationship with this movie like I mean, the oddest like, for one, I used to hate this movie like this was easily my least favorite Wes Anderson movie for a while but I couldn’t pinpoint as to why it just didn't vibe with me on the first 2 viewings but then, around the time I started logging the films I saw on here, I gave it another chance & it instantly became one of my favorite films of Anderson's entire filmography but I just revisited it, in celebration of Anderson's new movie & I think I can now pinpoint why I didn't like this movie initially because that's the reason why I do not like it as much as when I watched it back in like April of 2023, kinda reappeared again on this viewing First off, let's start with the good which there is still a shit ton of good in this movie for one, Ralph Fiennes he is just perfect in this movie & I don't think it's controversial to say that he is easily one of Wes Anderson's best characters & technically, probably is his best character & if it wasn’t for just my personal love for Rushmore he probably be mine as well Ralph Fiennes was just so perfect as this near perfect character but another person's movie I really adored was Adrian Brody his character is so goofy like you have the scene where Adrian is just insulting the fuck out of Ralph Fiennes & call him the F-slur, But also says he fucks old ladys like his characters is just so over the top & I just can't help but love him same goes for the rest of the ensemble they're all very absurd, but such a great way & yet, my favorite chunk of the movie, I'll say, isn't even really the main story cuz I really loved the parts with Jude Law & F Murray Abraham cuz that section of the movie had the stuff I just love the most in Wes Andersons movies which I'll get more into that later & then, I can't mention this movie without mentioning how this movie looks for one, it’s shot so fuckin’ well, like every Wes Anderson movie & the fuckin’ set design, man it's all just out of this fuckin’ world but yeah, there is just so much greatness about this movie whether it be the outstanding ensemble, the incredible set, or even just a chunk of the movie there is just so much in this movie to appreciate Now it's time to talk about the bad because, as I mentioned I think I figured out why this movie didn't click with me initially & that is just how absurd the whole movie is like yeah, it is definitely a lot of charm of the movie & I have come to really appreciate it, over time but personally, I kind of like the more down-to-earth stories Anderson does hell, my favorite film of his is probably his most down-to-earth movie ever & the same thing goes for my 2nd favorite Anderson movie like I just think he thrives better in the realistic tealm now, again, there are some aspects of the goofiness I very much enjoyed some of the dialogue is really funny like, again, the scene where Adrien Brody is just insulting the fuck out of Ralph Fiennes is probably the funniest scene in any of Anderson's movies & also, Ralph Fiennes was at the perfect level of over-the-top in this movie really, my only problem is that every character is over-the-top, & goofy & so when you have that plus Anderson's unique style I will say, it does get a bit draining after a little bit but I mean, it is still a very solid aspect of the movie it's just, I can understand someone not like Connecting with the movie because of that because I'm pretty sure that's why I didn't like it initially Anyways, those are just my thoughts. I know some of you out there absolutely adore this movie particularly 2 people I know on here, who has this as their favorite movie ever & so for a lot of people, what I'm saying is probably blasphemy but I just have to be truthful & still, I feel this is still a very strong 9/10 I just personally connect to different aspects of Anderson's movies Overall Alfred gets bitches
- nick wasslenMay 25, 2025Maybe Wes Anderson’s best work. A colourful nostalgic fairy tale of old Europe and how that mythic time died under the shadow of two world wars.
- Mister ArnMay 14, 2025This movie has oddball characters inserted into a bizarre story with subtle humor played against the scenic backdrop of the Budapest hotel. If you are looking for normal, look elsewhere, but if want something a little off, you found it.
- Incompetent FoolMarch 3, 2025such a uniquely fun movie
