The Golden Child Ratings & Reviews
- ርልዪረMarch 5, 2026The mid 1980s seemed to be a time for overblown far eastern chop socky comedy dramas. There was Gremlins, Big Trouble in Little China. With Eddie Murphy becoming the biggest comedy star in the planet thanks to movies such as Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop. Here was an attempt for Eddie to become more family friendly. He plays Chandler Jarrell an LA social worker looking for a missing child. Only to be told he is the chosen one and he needs to rescue the Golden Child who has magical powers. The young boy has been held captive by evil Sardo Numspa (Charles Dance.) The Golden Child is an uneven film. Part fantasy, part action some comedy. You can see the writers have attempted to crow bar some Axel Foley into Eddie's character. It is strangely enjoyable but it could had been better. The trailer for this movie promised a much better film.
- Michael SurberNovember 21, 2025A classic from the '80s. Eddie is at his best in this one, that's all you really need to know.
- Dan S TurpinFebruary 4, 2025Hard to beleive there was a time when Eddie Murphy was funny and had all the power of the box office at his disposal. Junk like this at least made money and had a few laughs, but its far too absurd to really show off Ed's talents. Even Murphy said this was "A piece of shit." The only reason this film exists is due to his contract with Paramount was originally putting him in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," as a scientist who helps the crew. Murphy being a fan wanted in, the trek people wanted him in, Paramount didn't want both it's hot properties merging. Two hits are better than one.
