The Final Countdown Ratings & Reviews
- cmiles2432October 11, 2025Great sci-fi. Can't wait for the new series
- Jonathan KillebrewNovember 18, 2025This was such a great movie for the time it was made. Such an exciting adventure and a fun what-if type of scenario. I love how they don't really go into too much detail on the event that sends them back in time. It doesn't detract at all from the great concept and storyline.
- RichardNovember 6, 2025This one hit me on Dutch or German television sometime in the '80s, probably sandwiched between a war documentary and a rerun of Columbo. And it stuck. The Final Countdown is one of those “what if?” movies that doesn’t just flirt with time travel, it dives in, salutes and launches jets through it. The premise? The USS Nimitz, a real life aircraft carrier, gets sucked into a mysterious storm and hurled back to December 6, 1941, the eve of Pearl Harbor. Cue the moral dilemma: should modern firepower rewrite history or let it unfold? It’s a setup that’s both thrilling and philosophical, especially when you’re a kid watching it on a CRT with mono sound and wondering if history could be hacked. A Cold War era time travel tale that’s part naval drama, part speculative fiction. If you saw it on TV in the '80s, it probably left you with goosebumps and questions. Watching it now? Still a fascinating ride, especially if you love butterfly effect dilemmas and the smell of jet fuel in your nostalgia.
- Mister ArnMay 20, 2025This film poses a lot of questions about time travel and changing the past, then answers them with its ending.
- CollegoOctober 11, 2025The classic movie holds a special place in the hearts of many viewers. Its captivating story and memorable characters have left a lasting impact. Considering its enduring appeal, a remake could introduce this narrative to a new generation. However, any new version must treat the source material with respect and care. A faithful adaptation could potentially bring fresh perspectives while honoring the original's essence.
- Dr. Nevin L. CumpstonAugust 11, 2025The US Navy allowing the production onto the USS Nimitz makes the movie quite enjoyable. The dilemma of deciding to intervein in history and change the actual course of history or allowing it to happen without intervening is explored quite well.
- Das_LamaJuly 4, 2025As another reviewer mentioned, this movie has a Top Gun vibe to it. The special effects are definitely dated. Kirk Douglas played an excellent captain. This movie is worth the watch. I thought the ending was good.
