The Favourite Ratings & Reviews
- makdelartDecember 19, 2025Awesome! I can't believe Lanthimos can actually make a good film.
- mickerdooOctober 22, 2025Raw and visceral display of hierarchy. Flips idea of traditional manners and courtesy on its head. Colman, Stone and Weisz are unnerving.
- tnt.psdJuly 10, 2025“I’ve sent for some lobsters. I thought we could race them and then eat them.” These guys must’ve had nothing to do back then—but I’d love to do that now. That sounds awesome. I thought this movie was going to be normal. I was surely mistaken. It’s 𝓯𝓻*𝓪𝓴𝔂, like all of his other movies. The lighting in this is crazy. It was a good idea to watch this at three in the morning in my basement.
- StairwaytothestarsAugust 4, 2025Brava to three majestic female lead performances! Very entertaining with opulent atmosphere, and the magical Rachel Weisz is a scene-stealer. Be careful if you are THE FAVOURITE because sitting on royalties lap comes with a noble price! This film is a satchel of precious jewels.
- mariekyleJune 28, 2025Good movie any day of the week.
- HakihikoFebruary 27, 2025A Sharp, Witty, and Visually Striking Period Drama "The Favourite" is a darkly comedic and visually stunning period drama that reinvents historical storytelling with its sharp wit, unconventional style, and outstanding performances. Yorgos Lanthimos crafts a film that feels both grand and intimate, blending political intrigue, power struggles, and biting humor in a way that keeps the audience captivated. The film's greatest strength lies in its phenomenal cast. Olivia Colman delivers an Oscar-winning performance as Queen Anne, portraying her with a mix of vulnerability, unpredictability, and tragic depth. Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz are equally brilliant, bringing layers of cunning, ambition, and desperation to their roles as they battle for the Queen's favor. Their chemistry and sharp exchanges make for an engaging power dynamic that shifts constantly, keeping the film unpredictable and thrilling. Visually, "The Favourite" is a masterpiece. The cinematography, with its wide-angle shots and dramatic lighting, creates a unique and immersive atmosphere. The costume design and lavish production values add to the film's authenticity, while the offbeat humor and modern sensibilities make it feel refreshingly bold for a period drama. While the film's slow pace and eccentric style may not be for everyone, its razor-sharp script, striking visuals, and powerhouse performances make it a standout. "The Favourite" is a compelling and darkly entertaining tale of power, manipulation, and survival in a ruthless world.
- Rowan KrzysiakFebruary 12, 2025Remove the period setting and the fact that the central relationship is a homosexual one and you essentially have an episode of 'Saved By The Bell' longed out over 2 hours. It really is truly awful and signals one dangerous consequence of TV becoming more cinematic in that TV fodder like this is also mistaken for cinema. The longer it goes on the shitter it gets but I'll give it some kudos for its random use of the word 'cunt' three times. Utter torture. Avoid.
