1/2 a Star (I gave 1/8 of a Star for each member of the fantastic 4) REALLY BAD (not in a good way)

This one’s infamous and I mean infamous. Made for one reason only: to retain the film rights. Never officially released, but it leaked and of course I had to see it. Oley Sassone directs, Roger Corman produces and the budget? Let’s just say it wouldn’t cover catering on a modern Marvel set. The plot follows the classic origin: four astronauts get zapped by cosmic rays and become stretchy, invisible, rocky and flammable. They face off against Dr. Doom, who sounds like he’s gargling marbles in a tin can. The effects are… earnest. Reed’s stretching looks like a rubber glove on a stick. The Thing is a man in a foam suit who somehow emotes better than most of the cast. But here’s the thing (pun intended): everyone’s trying. The actors give it their all, clearly thinking this might be their big break. There’s heart in the performances, even if the script is pure Saturday morning cheese. I liked it for the tragedy behind the scenes, the campy charm and the sheer audacity of it all. It’s the kind of movie that made feel like a bootleg VHS fever dream, with foam fists, earnest monologues and a studio that never meant for us to see it.

My quick rating - 3.9/10. I remember years ago hearing about this unreleased version of the movie. The story was that Bernd Eichinger owned the rights, but only through a certain date, so he HAD to make a movie to keep the rights. So he hired the king of B-budget, Roger Corman, to make this with only the intention of keeping the rights and never actually letting this movie see the light of day. Eichinger did end up keeping those rights and also producing the 2005 & 2007 Fantastic 4 movies. Well, this one has made its way around in various outlets, and I never got around to watching (or owning) it until now. Not linking to it here since I am sure it will be taken down, but the whole movie is on YouTube right now if you want to check it out. It is obviously made long before superhero flix became the blockbuster movies they are now. This one is pretty bad all around, but still ends up being must see for fans.

Just watched Doomed! and upped my rating after seeing how much work went into this, and how the people involved got screwed over by the fucknanigans and tomfuckery that went on behind the scenes. #ReleaseTheSassoneCut 📽️🎟️🍿❤️
