The Fall Guy Ratings & Reviews
- Thomas ChludzinskiFebruary 28, 2025I did not expect to love this film as much as I did. The writing is really tightly written and the actors have great chemistry. Such an amazing popcorn flic for a Friday night in
- rg9400November 1, 2024An aggressively mediocre movie. I think Ryan Gosling is a lot of fun, but him and Emily Blunt lack a lot of chemistry, so their romance isn't very engaging. The humor is a bit hit or miss. It did elicit laughs from me, but a lot less than I was expecting. The movie also struggles with pacing, with it being surprisingly slower than expected, and the core mystery/intrigue being very predictable and bland. I get that's not the main focus of this movie, but considering the slower pacing and the limited impact of the romance and comedy, you'd hope the plot could carry the movie more. The cinematography was pretty good at times though, including a cool meta scene involving split screens. I also do appreciate the focus on stunt people. However, the movie is still extremely disposable and carried solely by Ryan Gosling in most places. I think if you appreciated some of David Leitch's prior movies such as Bullet Train and Deadpool 2, you might appreciate this one more than I did since I found those equally bland and mediocre.
- TanalienNovember 2, 2024The Fall Guy is a love letter written for the stunt community and reveals another dimension of movies to discover. So much so that when we rewatch old favorites, it will be like seeing them anew. I know I’ll be asking, "How in the hell did they pull that off?" and "Come on, man, Ryan Gosling didn't jump on to a helicopter after driving off a ramp."
- MrterrytoyouFebruary 3, 2025Great movie, loved the action! Huge Tropic Thunder vibes, which I liked! that being said I also think that’s what made it 4 stars instead of 5 for me. Actually if you think about it, it is Tropic Thunder… the love story between Jack blacks character and the heroin. The love story of Simple Jack and the guerilla fighters that made the heroin. So many similarities… Still pretty fun movie!
- Desmond DaleJanuary 24, 2025The plot is twisty in the most predictable and boring way and yet despite that this movie won me over pretty much on the chemistry of Gosling and Blunt and the absolute batshit crazy stunts alone. This is another film where you pretty much need to walk into the theater with your mind turned off and ready to chomp on some popcorn and have your adrenaline sporadically boosted. This is a summer blockbuster.
- neuroparadox2d agoThis could have been the next Speed Racer if it leaned a little hardererer into Formalism. Even though I think it's better than people are gonna give it credit for...the movie feels like, either: A) an inside joke/love letter for movies, and stunts, and action , and bullshit, and sweet, that's great and amazing.... okay that's fun....let's party, I get it... it's National Lampoon's Fury Road ™️ B) I just sat down at a poker table and can't spot the sucker ...? PS: Ay-Ay-Ron! Taylor-Tohnson playing a toned down version Matthew McConaughey is worth the price of admission. 🤣✌️
- charliesimon778July 15, 2025I thought this movie was amazing showing a lot of the stunts. Including seeing the movie sets that Ryan Gosling’s character went on. I really liked the performances of Ryan Gosling with his stunts. I really liked how he and Emily Blunt were able to work together and getting a long with each other in the movie. I would love it if there would be a sequel to this movie.
- Ray HopkinDecember 26, 2024I loved this, dumb, stupid fun time! I remember watching the original series back when I was a kid, I remember the theme song! This definitely captured the vibe of the series, as a goofy good time.
- Lucas MagretaJuly 3, 2025Ryan gosling and Emily blunt. this is just a great movie together. the stunts are perfect. I don't think I would get ones better than that anytime soon
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025The synergistic energy of David Lietch and 87 North producing an adaptation of The Fall Guy (a 1980’s television series about a Hollywood stunt performer that moonlights as a a bounty hunter), and essentially making the entire film a love letter to stunt performers and the stunt community is an match made in Hollywood Heaven. The love and admiration for stunt work literally explodes off the screen from the opening intro to the behind-the-scenes credits sequence showcasing the stunt work. Add in charismatic and lead performances from the always charming Ryan Gosling and the effortlessly endearing Emily Blunt, it’s just nearly impossible not to leave the theater smiling. The packed house erupted in cheers on multiple occasions. The humor worked well, with loads of references and quotes from other films. I loved moments where the film delves into the meta narrative and the shots being described in the fictitious film Metalstorm, mirrors the actual shots on screen. They make for a wonderful visual gag, but also effectively connect the audience with the some of the language of filmmaking. My only negatives were that the villain turned out to be a bit of an eye-roll for me. And I started to feel the length during the final act which feels like it has multiple endings. Even though, I liked everything in those last 30 minutes, there’s several times where it feels like we’ve nearly reached a conclusions, but then the scene changes and we’re off in a new direction. Those minor misgivings aside, this was an extremely fun time at the theater and is a welcome tribute to stunt filmmaking and filmmaking in general.
- ronver1June 28, 2025Easy-to-watch movie. Lots of action and humor. You know it's going to have a happy ending — a perfect movie for a Saturday night at home
- Jacob O’NealJune 13, 2025Movies based on television shows are a mixed bag. For ever movie like The Fugitive or The Naked Gun we get a McHale’s Navy or It’s Pat (I’m counting it whether you like it or not). Although I like Ryan Gossling and felt he could be a good Lee Majors replacement I wasn’t sold till I heard who the director was. David Leitch directed Deadpool 2, Bullet Train and co-directed John Wick after his years as a stunt man and co-founder of 87North Studio, their stunt house and production offices. With his time as an actual stunt man, who better to direct a movie about a stunt man? This movie was charming, fun and lighthearted. It was surprisingly clean as well, very little language and nothing too sexual. The violences was PG-13 level, which works with the light tone of the movie. The story is about a stunt man who gets injured on set doing a fall. He breaks several bones and goes into a spiral well after he was healed till a director asks for him to work on a new movie. It turns out that director didn’t ask for him. They used to date. Someone else set this up because there was some bad thing happening on set and the start disappeared. They wanted Colt Seavers (Gossling) to snoop around and see what he can find out about the disappearance. He reluctantly agrees and the action begins. The movie has a fun premise mostly retained from the tv series. Gosling and Emily Blunt were good together. Their verbal sparring reminded me of shows from my childhood, like Moonlighting. Granted, Moonlighting did it much better, but this was still really fun. The action scenes look fantastic. Leitch’s and 87North’s process for action scenes to stage them in their studio and shoot them on GoPro camera, edit them and see what works and what doesn’t. They are very meticulous with their action scenes…and it shows. The script was fun and just clever enough to stay away from the bad movie remake of a tv show cliche. There are some great moments with cameos by some of the original cast and the supporting actors were great. Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick Ass, Bullet Train) were the real stand outs in supporting roles here. They were so much for to watch that you secretly wanted more of them, but know if you got too much then you may not like their character anymore and you’d be sad so you decide to boycott Mission Impossible 8 to send a message to Hannah Waddingham that you won’t support her work because she keeps outshining the cast. It’s a sad situation. You should be happy with what you get.
- The Gutter MonkeyFebruary 3, 2025Stupid... but in a relatively fun way.
- whe88January 24, 2025It had some funny lines. But it was like a movie for 80IQ people written by 90IQ people. Painful. I was expecting a better movie.
- alexhar89January 5, 2025Good / gosling
