The Face of Another Ratings & Reviews
Rowan Krzysiak
February 25, 2025
A story told in such a way it would be unlikely to receive a 2h runtime these days. It's a basic idea that tries to suggest a deeper meaning with unnatural and overly prophetic dialogue. A few style over substance shots are also thrown in for good measure including the entire sub-story which feels completely superfluous. It teases something good but bumbles the execution in all departments.

By the time the movie is over you'll want to rush to a mirror to spend a few minutes staring at yourself.

Asks probing questions about one's identity.

The theme is brilliantly and imaginatively explored, and the acting is potent.

I watched Hiroshi Teshigahara's The Face of Another and read about it and thought about it, yet ultimately failed to connect with it.
