- Jacob Thompson8. februar 2026This movie has been going on for over 10 hours. PLEASE HELP!
- Timeless Cinema31. oktober 2025Exit 8 is an intriuguing mystery that's feels undercooked, but is still enjoyable. If you enjoy backrooms (aka labyrinth) concepts, it's cool to see. The game Exit 8 also pairs well alongside the film.
- eckoryan11. mars 2026I'll let you know what I think if I ever find the end.
- MrTrivet20. januar 2026A Japanese take on the concept of backdoors, it’s an adaptation of a video game I haven’t played, yet it stands strongly on its own. The narrative is gamified, often shifting between first- and third-person perspectives, with action structured around repeated activities that feel akin to the curiosity-driven language of video games. It could have been tedious, but the filmmakers maintain a careful balance between mystery, horror, and drama. I especially appreciated the two main threads: social indifference, and the anxiety surrounding parenthood, particularly from a male perspective. The cinematography and pacing make moments that might have felt mechanical immersive and tense. It’s engaging, thoughtful, and consistently compelling - a rare case of a film based on a game that works brilliantly as cinema, and I’m now curious to explore the game itself to see how much of this comes from the source material versus sheer cinematic skill.
- enochar-1 d.Intense, engaged the whole way through
- Burnharm-6 d.Exit 8 (2025) has a really disturbing but fascinating concept. I have not played the video game it is based on, but after watching the film, I definitely want to. It’s a very interesting movie that creates an unsettling atmosphere and keeps you curious all the way through.
- gnrrain-7 d.Taking an extraordinarily small game and turning it into a 90 minute movie that was wholly enjoyable to watch and had me invested in every character on screen is exactly the reason I love horror that doesn't come from the US. I have no idea what I truly expected out of this little movie, but what I got was more than what I assumed. Keep an open mind, not everyone will make the same decisions you might make, and not everyone will see small details you might see. Loved this and will watch it again.
- James Saenz-2 d.if i had a nickel for every time i watched a horror film adaptation of a one hour indie video game in theaters this year, i’d have two nickels; which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice. this one was way better. we love möbius strips and liminal spaces.
- marshalsea19. mars 2026Solid indie horror. No gore needed, just mining the uncanny valley. See the normal idiots who can't empathise complaining about how if they were the character they wouldn't do x, y, z... ignore these and go watch yourself. Interesting to see how a concept game was turned into a rather great little movie - and managed to not commit the normal sin of US idiots of inserting their ego - so it's faithful.
- sin.2-2 d.Exit 8 is a sharp, inventive adaptation that fully commits to its video game roots without feeling gimmicky. It translates interactivity into tension with confidence, while delivering surprisingly complex characters that add real emotional weight.
- DOUGFLIX-3 d.Worth a watch
- Spanktacular8. mars 2026Perfectly encapsulates the bewildering dread-terror of your ex-girlfriend telling you she's pregnant with your baby.
- Rowan Krzysiak21. februar 2026It's hard to know if knowing the game this is based on helps or hinders enjoyment. What I can say is that if considering that source, this is about as good a movie translation possible and I found it pretty enjoyable. If the main conceit wasn't pulled directly from the game I'd have likely scored it higher.
- Cameron9. februar 2026Was brilliant could have had better ending though
- Hakihiko14. januar 2026An Intriguing Concept That Struggles to Fully Translate "Exit 8" is a film that immediately sparked curiosity, especially for those familiar with the original game and its uniquely unsettling premise. The source material was memorable for its simplicity, atmosphere, and quiet tension - so seeing it adapted into a feature film is both surprising and ambitious. While the result isn't bad, it ultimately feels a bit underwhelming. The movie does a decent job of preserving the eerie tone and minimalist feel that made the game so intriguing. There's an effort to maintain that sense of unease and repetition, and visually, it captures the sterile, liminal atmosphere fairly well. You can clearly see the respect for the original concept. That said, the transition from game to film proves challenging. What works brilliantly in an interactive format doesn't always translate into a compelling narrative structure. The film struggles to expand the premise in a way that feels fully engaging, and as a result, some sections feel repetitive or stretched thin rather than tense and immersive. Performances are serviceable, but the characters never become a strong emotional anchor. This isn't entirely surprising given the nature of the source material, yet it does limit the film's impact. The pacing is uneven at times, wavering between moments of intrigue and stretches that feel less inspired. In the end, "Exit 8" is a respectable attempt at adapting a very unconventional game. It's watchable and occasionally effective, but it never quite reaches the level of tension or originality that made the game stand out. Not bad, not great - an interesting experiment that falls a bit short of its potential.
