- Richard31 augustus 2025I didn’t expect much going in, but The Darkest Hour surprised me and that made all the difference. Set in Moscow, this alien invasion flick flips the usual Hollywood formula by shifting the battleground away from the U.S. and into unfamiliar territory. That alone I think gave it a fresh vibe. Let’s be honest: the CGI is hit or miss and the ending is pure cheese. But there’s a charm to its ambition. It tries to be more than just another alien flick and while it doesn’t always succeed, I never found it boring. It may not be a masterpiece, but it’s a fun, fast paced ride with a few clever ideas and a different setting that gives it his own unique flavor. I enjoyed it more than I expected and sometimes, that’s the best kind of movie night.
