- Scott Smith5. december 2025I've been on a Leonardo DiCaprio kick lately (one of my favorite actors), and I saw this many years ago. I've also read the book, and books of Jim Carroll's poems. But I had forgotten how gritty and gut wrenching this gets. Leonardo does an excellent job in this role, showing the horrors of being a junkie in NYC in the 70's. Great film and a great cast. But not a fun watch, it's way too real. As it should be, and as Jim intended it to be.
