What sets it apart is how tastefully the story is told. Even as it deals with fame, egos, breakups, and industry pressures, it remains upbeat and entirely family-friendly, making it one of those rare music films you can watch with anyone. And of course, there’s the song. Having only one hit could have felt like a gimmick, but “That Thing You Do!” is so unbelievably catchy that it adds real legitimacy to the fictional Wonders. It feels like a tune that actually would have climbed the charts. Tom Hanks’ direction keeps everything light yet heartfelt, creating a nostalgic snapshot of an era when a single track could change everything overnight. It’s a feel-good movie that still hits all the right notes.
