Strangeland Ratings & Reviews

Dee Snider came out swinging with his first horror film. He played with all the fringe stuff in a more overt way than Clive Barker did with Hellraiser. But the movie has some major flaws - story structure being a big one. Another is poor direction. I know this movie was low budget, but so was Dawn Of The Dead or Friday The 13th. Finally, the acting was wooden from people who have performed much better. I kinda blame the directing for that as well. Conceptually, Snider knew what he wanted and Captain Howdy was a fully fleshed out villain, but the writing around him was bad. Overall, the movie is still fun if you’re a horror fan, a Snider fan or just curious. Just know what you’re getting and you’ll get it in spades.

But most everything else about Strangeland, from the writing to the acting to the camerawork to the editing, is Grade Z in quality - not just uncomfortable and off-putting but downright incompetent.

This terrible horror film pretends to tell a moral about internet chat rooms, but really it's a cheap C grade slasher flick.

Snider's Captain Howdy is an appropriately scary creation, but the movie mostly lets him down.

After the agonizing torture that was endured I can safely make the statement that Strangeland is now and will be the worst film of 1998.

It's a disturbing, hopeless, irredeemable series of images that will scar you if you wander into it unprepared.

Painful to endure even by modern primitive standards, it's a freaky, funless wreck, intolerable in the extreme.

Twisted Sister's Dee Snider makes a movie -- a must-see, right? Wrong-o!

The kind of movie where you want to take a bath after watching.

Perhaps if I hadn't expected it to be so bad I might have approved of it less.
