This is not a documentary about celebrity; it is a raw and profound portrait of the human condition itself. To watch STILL is to be granted a privileged, heart-wrenching glimpse into the most intimate of human struggles: the war between an irrepressible spirit and a failing body as a result of Parkinson’s Disease. The film’s genius lies in its intuitive alignment with Fox’s internal reality. We don't just learn about his Parkinson's diagnosis; we feel its relentless, invisible advance through the very fabric of the storytelling. The interweaving of archival footage—capturing his boundless, kinetic energy—with the stark, trembling present creates a devastatingly poignant contrast. It speaks to my core — the theme of the duality of existence: the vibrant, eternal self trapped within a fragile, temporal vessel. What resonates most deeply is Fox’s breathtaking authenticity. He navigates his journey with a lack of sentimentality that is far more powerful than any tragedy narrative. His humor is a sharp, graceful act of defiance, and his acceptance feels not like surrender, but a hard-won, enlightened state of being. He demonstrates that true courage isn’t the absence of fear or frustration, but the conscious decision to find meaning and even joy within the struggle. This film is a masterclass in empathy. It transcends the specifics of illness to touch on universal truths about identity, resilience, and what it means to truly be still—to finally, after a lifetime of motion, confront the essence of who you are when all external doing is stripped away. It is an unforgettable lesson in grace, reminding us that the strongest light often shines from the darkest places.

A largely nostalgic look at Michael J. Fox and a behind-the-scenes look at how his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease affected his life and career.  Though there isn’t anything especially revelatory about this doc, it’s still fascinating to get a peak behind the curtain.  Fox didn’t make his diagnosis public for several years, initially trying to mask his condition with pills and other tricks. Seeing archive footage of him masking his left hand tremors through prop usage is illuminating. It’s a straight forward documentary, but an easy recommendation if you were a fan of his growing up, as I was.
