A truly great remake with a story almost beat for beat from the original yet is many ways superior. It doesn't have Duke or the excellent location shooting of the first BUT Alex Cord seems to be better than Wayne. He seems more the young man on the run and just as cool. The rest of the cast at first blush seems to be some made-for-tv quality but holy hell everyone is great in it. Bing Crosby (!) is very believable as the drunk doctor with some heartbreaking stuff when he tries to sober up. We love in a time of reboots and remakes. This is one western that is better than the first. Maybe it’s the technical advances since the first. Maybe it’s just a better.

Dennis Schwartz
Mediocre remake of John Ford's 1939 Western classic.
