Spectre Ratings & Reviews
- Jakeys6d agoGreat intro, great henchman, great outfits, great train sequence... okay that's it. Bad Bond movie. Atrocious third act. Seriously the third act SUCKED. What the hell was that. Did the torture thing even do anything? This lame villain was retroactively behind all of the previous movies? Come on, what a joke. On the plus side, it could all be forgiven for that one shot of Lea Seydoux walking up to Bond for dinner on the train in that amazing slinky dress... genuinely stunning in the cinema. Also, Skyfall makes such a big deal about how Bond is aged out as a 00 Agent, only to just completely dismiss it for this movie and have him fighting giant Dave Bautista sized henchmen (again, great btw, classic Bond trope) and leaping from buildings like he's in his 20's. One final note. Because of this movie, I thought I didn't like Andrew Scott. But, now having seen Fleabag, I owe him a huge apology. His character sucked, actually everything about that entire subplot sucked, but he's awesome.
- mickerdooJuly 14, 2025I still find Craig as Bond enthralling. No difference here. Waltz makes a great antagonist. Fiennes, Bautista and Scott work well.
- Mister ArnMay 20, 2025It's James Bond, so you have to watch it, but it's not one of the better Bond movies. The opening action sequence is below average with its use of helicopters and lack of creativity. Unfortunately, it sets the tone for the rest of the film.
- Louis WhiteDecember 20, 2025Quite a great film! Still, my favourite things of this movie was Daniel Craig and Ben Whishaw, and the Austrian Alps!
- Tubeman72January 1, 2026James Bond goes on a mission to Mexico without permission from MI6 to eliminate the mysterious Sciarra. Bond soon discovers the existence of the mysterious organization Spectre, which is bent on ruling the world. Together with the beautiful Madeline Swann, Bond tries to stop Specter. The many obstacles lead him to the sinister leader of Specter who has an unexpected link to Bond's past. The previous James Bond film, 'Skyfall' from 2012, broke all Bond records worldwide. Never before has a Bond film made so much money and even scored two Oscars. The expectations for the 24th film in the successful film series were sky-high. With director Sam Mendes again and leading actor Daniel Craig, also producer, at the helm and the addition of the very successful Dutch cameraman Hoyte van Hoytema, 'Spectre' was a success. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson promised an even bigger spectacle than 'Skyfall'. 'Spectre' starts with an incredibly beautiful two and a half minute tracking shot in Mexico during the national holiday Day of the Dead. In the shot, all typical Bond elements are briefly mentioned; an exotic location, a beautiful woman and an extremely confident Bond carrying out a mission in a sleek suit. After the mission, Bond is upset by the new M (Ralph Fiennes), who is concerned about a merger of MI5 and MI6. Bond is suspended but, with the help of Q (Ben Whishaw) and Moneypenny (Naomie Harris), secretly searches for Spectre's secrets. What follows are spectacular action scenes, funny one-liners and beautiful shots of all exotic locations. But there are caveats. 'Spectre' is long, too long. In many scenes you get the feeling that things are being stretched. It slows down the pace, especially in the middle part of the film. Daniel Craig seems to have really hit his stride in his fourth Bond portrayal. He plays relaxed, makes more jokes and is a bit more charming than in the previous films. He also remains physically tough enough to be credible as an action hero. Although it is a pity that he does not sustain a single scratch after a fierce fight with Mr Hinx (Dave Bautista). That was very different in 'Casino Royale' and made it a lot rougher. The grittiness of that film is completely flooded with a smooth sauce of typical Bond elements in 'Spectre'. Includes a ticking time bomb and a chase in the snow. Does this bother you? No, because it was executed perfectly. But compared to the tougher 'Casino Royale' and the unexpected depth of 'Skyfall', 'Spectre' is very conventional. After the announcement of the 'Spectre' Bond girls, there was an immediate fuss about the Italian actress Monica Bellucci. The celebrated and beautiful actress is, at 50 years old, the oldest Bond girl ever. A very emancipated choice by the producers and the chemistry between Craig and Bellucci jumps off the screen. It is therefore a shame that Bellucci is only in the film for a very short time. The biggest role is reserved for Léa Seydoux as the clever Madeline Swann. Seydoux is fine but ultimately cannot do much with her role. The role of Madeline Swann is a bit too much of a 'damsel in distress' for that. From the moment Christoph Waltz was announced as villain Franz Oberhauser and the title of the film was announced, the Bond rumor mill got going. Could this mark the return of Bond chief villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld? The rumors were strongly denied, but fans were not convinced. We know that Waltz can play an extremely nasty yet charming villain thanks to his Oscar-winning role of Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds'. As Oberhauser, Waltz is introduced in a wonderfully creepy way, but it takes a very long time before Bond has to deal with him again. When the moment comes, his role still disappoints. Oberhauser lacks a certain intensity and his motivation for wanting to destroy James lingers on the surface. Very unfortunate because we know from 'Skyfall' that Javier Bardem as Silva succeeded in this. 'Spectre' is certainly a success as a typical Bond film. Daniel Craig has never played Bond better and the film looks fantastic. However, there could have been more in terms of story and depth and the film does not match its predecessor 'Skyfall'.
- rayzrsharpDecember 19, 2025Probably my fave of all James Bond Installments next to Casino Royale.
- Jose CanteroDecember 13, 2025AMAZING
- darsanNovember 2, 2025a decent follow up to skyfall, the action was good, the visuals were good, villain was decent
- Nathan MagretaOctober 31, 2025Someone please explain the hate for this movie. Spectre is an extremely ambitious film, as it attempts to Tie in all the previous Daniel Craig outings, and though it sometimes doesn't reach the heights it wants to, Daniel craig still leads and overall amazing bond film.
- John MossOctober 28, 2025Much better upon second viewing.
