In 1993, the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence Project receives a transmission detailing an alien DNA structure, along with instructions on how to splice it with human DNA. The result is Sil, a sensual but deadly creature who can change from a beautiful woman to an armour-plated killing machine in the blink of an eye.

Species Ratings & Reviews
- tellumDecember 2, 2025I think this movie has better body horror effects than what it gets credit for. It is no masterpiece but is a better than average sci fi horror flick.
- Mycroft001November 16, 2025An interesting concept for it's time, alluring yet vicious.
- Bastion JuddOctober 30, 2025Good Nostalgia sci-fi not family-friendly for children has nudity
- Christopher HeatonSeptember 5, 2025This is a good movie but this movie puts me off girls I am scared of having a girlfriend just in case this happens and they say “I want a baby”
- ZokkiieJune 21, 2025This is a mix of sci-fi, horror, and action that sounds cooler than it really is. The idea of a half-human, half-alien woman on the loose is interesting, but the movie leans too hard into B-movie territory. The effects were probably impressive back in the day, but they haven’t aged well and look pretty dated now. Natasha Henstridge stands out in her debut, but the story is kind of silly and the dialogue is clunky. It’s not awful, just kind of average. Fun in a cheesy 90s way, but don’t expect anything deep or scary.
- RichardOctober 19, 2025This one’s a fever dream of sci-fi, horror and hormonal chaos, the kind of film that made you wonder if SETI should’ve just ghosted that alien transmission. Species is what happens when you mix Giger’s biomechanical nightmares with a Hollywood casting call and say, “Let’s make it sexy.” Sil, the half human, half alien hybrid, is born from a lab experiment that should’ve stayed theoretical. She escapes, evolves and hunts for a mate, all while morphing from supermodel to spiky death machine in seconds. Natasha Henstridge’s debut is unforgettable, not just for the obvious reasons, but because she somehow makes Sil both terrifying and tragic. The cast is a who's-who of '90s genre royalty: Ben Kingsley doing his best “I regret everything” face, Michael Madsen growling through the chaos, Alfred Molina being charmingly clueless and Forest Whitaker empathizing with everything that moves. It’s like Alien met Basic Instinct at a B-movie convention and decided to party. Watching it now, the effects are charmingly dated, the dialogue is clunky in all the right ways and the pacing is surprisingly tight. It’s not deep, but it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s a popcorn flick with a pulse and a lot of latex. Trashy? Yes. Fun? Absolutely. Species is a glorious slice of '90s genre excess, best enjoyed with dim lights, a smirk and the knowledge that you own this madness on DVD. It’s sleazy sci-fi comfort food and Sil still haunts your dreams.
- SpanktacularAugust 2, 2025"We decided to make it female so that it would be more docile and controllable." ...It was the 90s. Peak Giger, incredible cast of legends, and they really tried to shoehorn in that model what with her boobs and all. It's an extended X-Files monster-of-the-week episode with your favourite stars of the 90s.
- Peter BickfordMarch 31, 2025Henstridge is a to-die-for human/alien hybrid in this sexy, slightly silly take on Alien. Actually better thabni remembered it, but the giger effects work is nowhere near as good.
