Sherlock Holmes Ratings & Reviews
- M08Y30 de marzo de 2026More like Pirates of the Caribbean than Sherlock Holmes. I remember being really impressed by this film when I was younger and revisiting.. it doesn't hold up to the pedestal I put it on. That's not to say that this is a bad film, far from it, but it's not the masterpiece I used to think it was. The best way for me to describe this film is that it's closer to Pirates of the Caribbean than what I think a Sherlock Holmes film should be. This is a fun film and not a clever one. Thinking about Sherlock Holmes in that context, it's much easier to say good things about it. The casting is great, the sets look good and the pacing is breezy. The comedy is good and the leads really spark off each other. Whilst the casting is great, Mark Strong is absolutely wasted here. Now for the 4K Bluray... bit of a miss here. While the full screen 16:9 aspect ratio is greatly appreciated, you can really tell that this film is a 2K upscale. Nothing is quite as sharp as it could be which is unfortunate for the Victorian London setting. There are a few decent uses of HDR, but once again mostly another miss. The audio is in a similar story. I wasn't impressed by the mixing at all, often finding it hard to pick up dialogue over the background noise.

- Dave9 de junio de 2025After my 15th watch I find this movie still keeps my attention. Sherlock is very interesting and the way they show his mind working with his monologue is pretty cool.
- Zokkiie2 de enero de 2026This version of Sherlock Holmes is fast, flashy, and a lot of fun. It’s not the classic cozy mystery style, but the chemistry and energy keep it entertaining. Basil Rathbone is still my favorite Holmes, but RDJ does a good job with a more modern, rough-around-the-edges take

- Ty Leet31 de diciembre de 2025Hot take Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorite Sherlocks.
- thomasrogers7536 de octubre de 2025Wait so was his plan to kill everyone with a geeb?
- Richard9 de noviembre de 2025Guy Ritchie grabs Conan Doyle’s detective and gives him a Victorian makeover with bare knuckle brawls, kinetic edits and Robert Downey Jr. monologuing like a caffeinated chess master. It’s not your granddad’s Holmes, it’s Holmes as a quirky action hero with a bruised intellect and a bruising right hook. Jude Law’s Watson is no bumbling sidekick, he’s sharp, loyal and ready to throw down. Rachel McAdams adds intrigue as Irene Adler and Mark Strong broods his way through occult villainy like he’s auditioning for a Hammer horror reboot. The pacing? Fast. The visuals? Grimy and gorgeous. The plot? A twisty blend of logic and thaumaturgy. It’s not textbook Holmes, but it’s fun and the chemistry between Downey and Law makes it work. You liked the new take and rightly so. It’s a reinvention that respects the source while gleefully tossing it into a steampunk blender.
- Shaydeknight21 de octubre de 2025It's not Sherlock Holmes in the traditional sense, but then again, neither was the BBC version with Cumberbatch and Freeman, and that worked just fine. Robert Downey Jr.'s accent never quite lands, though, it's off centre by about five degrees. If you watch this as a quirky reinterpretation of Doyle's detective rather than a faithful adaptation, it's entertaining enough. But purists will likely bristle. Even Basil Rathbone's wartime interpretations felt closer to the spirit of the books. Ritchie's trademark quick-cut style, full of whooshing transitions and kinetic edits, feels too modern for the setting. The late Victorian grime and texture are beautifully realized, but the pacing and visual energy clash with it. It was too fast with too much CGI London in the background. You get tired of all the flashbacks, it's like slogging through the same material over again. That said, the plot is clever and thematically fitting. It's steeped in the late Victorian fascination with thaumaturgy, the occult, and secret societies. The writing team deserves credit for that touch of authenticity amid the stylized chaos. So, it's a decent enough popcorn film for a rainy afternoon. But if you actually LIKE Sherlock Holmes, it might just be better to turn the TV off and read one his stories.
- Andrew Clout4 de julio de 2025Brilliant….close to exceptional.
- Mister Arn18 de mayo de 2025In the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, the story departs from the traditional portrayal of the character. It leans more on action rather than logic to propel the plot, transforming Holmes into more of a superhero than a traditional detective. This intriguing twist, which may not sit well with purists, succeeds largely due to Robert Downey Jr.'s performance, which brings a new energy and charisma to the character.
