Shelter Ratings & Reviews
- faanetFebruary 3, 2026Great Movie... Action packed as all of his movies usually are and this one will not disappoint.
- Johnny WalkerFebruary 5, 2026Jason is the best action hero right now, he always delivers! 👊🏾😊🔥
- faze37d agoA decent typical Jason statham film. Left open if they move to a sequel
- Coouge9h agoIt’s alright, nothing special. Full of action though.
- Shaydeknight12h agoShelter tries to present itself as a tense, grounded action story built around a quiet protector and a vulnerable child. At moments it almost works. The film has a reasonably convincing visual setting, even if parts of it clearly rely on digital backgrounds that occasionally stand out more than they should. The action is restrained compared with many entries in the genre, and some of the car chases and hand to hand fights aim for a level of physical plausibility rather than comic book spectacle. The strongest performance comes from Bodhi Rae Breathnach, who carries a surprising amount of the emotional burden. She brings sincerity to a role that could easily have collapsed into cliché. In several scenes she manages to ground the film and give it a hint of the emotional weight the script clearly wants but never quite achieves. The central problem is that the entire film is built on the most overused template in Jason Statham's catalogue. The structure is instantly familiar: a supposedly retired operative tries to live quietly until circumstances force him to defend a vulnerable person, after which he proceeds to dismantle an entire criminal ecosystem with grim efficiency. It is the same premise we've seen repeatedly in Statham vehicles for years. Nothing in the screenplay attempts to subvert or deepen that formula at all. The writing is easily the weakest element of the film. Characters routinely make decisions that make little sense within their own circumstances. The film attempts to make cardboard cut-outs of people engage in moments of solemn reflection and moral gravity, but the dialogue is so thin that these scenes collapse into awkwardness. Instead of feeling serious, they come off as unintentionally comic. Statham himself is capable of far more than what the film asks of him. He has proven in other films that he can deliver dry humour and a certain understated charm. Here, he is largely reduced to silent scowls and grunted lines between bursts of violence. The performance never feels engaged because the character itself is barely written. Bill Nighy appears in a supporting role and is always competent, but the character is bafflingly constructed. His motivations and actions are contradictory for who he is, and the entire narrative portion connected to him never makes a whit of sense. Since much of the plot is predicated on that character's actions, the lack of coherence drags the whole story down. The action scenes themselves are reasonably staged. The fights remain exaggerated but stay just within the bounds of physical possibility, which at least gives them some weight. A few chases and confrontations provide brief moments of entertainment. Unfortunately, they sit inside a film whose emotional core and narrative logic are almost nonexistent. In the end, Shelter offers competent action fragments wrapped in a script that feels both derivative and poorly thought through. There is some decent stunt work and a surprisingly strong turn from its young co-star, but none of that compensates for dialogue that misses every serious note it aims for and a story that never rises above the most predictable version of the Statham formula. The result is pretty embarrassing, and often unintentionally funny for all the wrong reasons.
- tom_wenFebruary 13, 2026Not his best but still very enjoyable.
- gforce2415h agoNot his best & goes at a slower pace and not as action packed as his other movies and I have a problem with children who don’t have survival instincts when they need them.
- David Michael Kelsall1d agoGreat film by Jason lots of action and storyline
- xdeadzx4d agoJason Statham is Jason Statham in *Jason Statham being Jason Statham.* All action, all the time.
- JaysterFebruary 25, 2026Just Jason Statham doing Jason Statham things, predictable but still exhilarating action. Enjoyable watch!
- assassin0071d agoI'm a little biased as I like Jason Statham films and this one is no exception. Took a little while to get started but once it did it was action all the way.
- Scott Bouffler2d agoNot one of his best, but still worth watching. I enjoyed it.
- Corwin024d agoThey made Léon 2.0. Jason Statham instead of Jean Reno. Nice!
- malus.rFebruary 25, 2026Unfortunately not great, yes there is some action but the story is weak with a lot of plot holes, a bit slow and boring
- Mr_David3d agoVery basic, with new creative ways to kill.
