- Kevin WardJuly 7, 2025What a cool flick, a kind of unconventional crime drama. Going in totally blind, the title and poster certainly don’t give any inkling as to what this film is about. And honestly the first 30-40 minutes or so don’t either. However, Ray Winstone is magnetic to just watch on screen enjoying a leisurely existence poolside in a gorgeous Spanish hacienda. Enter Ben Kingsley who garnered a well deserved Oscar nom for this role. He absolutely owns the screen and comes completely unhinged at times in his berating and bullying of Winstone’s Gal Dove. Also features the always great Ian McShane as the head of this criminal operation. Sexy Beast has such a different dynamic than most crime pictures that it makes it kind of unforgettable in that way. Very little energy is given to laying out the crime itself. It’s really all poured into Gal Dove’s character, his desire for living out his retirement, his love for his wife, etc. Also, there’s a man-bunny. If you like British crime pictures, this is a must watch.
