It offers a totally crazy, fast-paced ride that doesn't waste time on elaborate backstories, diving right into the action with a simple, effective setup. The opening sequence is absolutely magnificent, setting an immediate tone of irreverence and gore while the janitor’s lip sync is particularly well shot and serves as a pitch-perfect introduction to the apocalypse. The film distinguishes itself by focusing on a trio of adolescent boys. While they could easily be discarded as throwaway characters, they're actually great: awkward, obsessed with the standard adolescent interests, goofy and fun-loving, yet ultimately brave and fiercely good friends to each other. Their recognizable foibles and issues make them surprisingly relatable heroes in a completely unbelievable scenario. The technical elements are executed with restraint, ensuring the focus remains squarely on the story and its characters. The simple camera work avoids being showy or distracting, making the events and the protagonists the true stars, rather than the craft. This direct approach, combined with a boisterous soundtrack, cements the film as a fun, well-paced horror-comedy that delivers a few chuckles and a rollicking good time. Warning: It's for older adolescents, NOT kids, due to zombie boobs, one extremely stretchy zombie penis, and death by zombilingus. Yes, that's what you think it is.
