- Admin25. mai 2026I’m old, and I’ve seen a lot of movies, so pay attention: This one ranks up there with the best STORIES I’ve seen told in a movie. I’m sick of explosions, super heroes, remakes, and gratuitous sex. This has none of that. Just a sweet story about two broken people, the perceptive octopus who recognized what they had in common, and how he brought them together. Definitely in my top 25 now, and over time it could creep into the top 10.
- Hakihiko-6 d.Eight Arms and One Good Heart You know exactly what kind of film "Remarkably Bright Creatures" is within the first ten minutes, and the thing is, it doesn't care that you know. It's warm, it's a little whimsical, and it wears its emotional intentions right out in the open without apology. Olivia Newman is working in the tradition of gentle coastal dramedy, the kind where grief and connection get untangled quietly over time, and she handles that register with more care and restraint than the premise probably deserved. Sally Field is the main reason this works as well as it does. There's a quiet precision to her performance, a kind of no nonsense dignity that keeps the film grounded whenever it risks floating off into pure sentimentality. Lewis Pullman more than holds his own opposite her, bringing a loose, slightly lost quality to his character that makes the growing bond between the two feel genuinely earned. And Alfred Molina voicing Marcellus is a genuinely lovely touch, dry and warm in equal measure, with the CGI octopus himself impressively convincing as a presence rather than a gimmick. The Pacific Northwest setting is used beautifully, all muted blues and coastal quiet, and the aquarium sequences have a soft, almost meditative quality that gives the whole film its particular texture. It's not a visually adventurous film by any means, but it's consistently handsome and knows how to use atmosphere to carry emotional weight without leaning on the score to do all the work. The script handles the themes of grief, isolation, and unexpected connection with genuine sensitivity for the most part, and the way the narrative is filtered through Marcellus's perspective adds an unusual tenderness that mostly works. Where it stumbles is in its more plot driven moments. Some of the revelations feel convenient in a way that slightly undercuts the quiet honesty the character work has been building, and the occasional burst of sappiness does temporarily tip the balance. Still, for a film this openly sentimental, it earns its feeling honestly and more often than not gets away with it. Comfort cinema with a real beating heart underneath.
